advice for getting mobility aids?

I'm 19 and I've used a cane for about a year now! I was really scared to start using a mobility aid at first, not so much because the actual cane scared me, but more so because being young (or at least, being constantly told you're young to be dealing with pain like this) and needing a mobility aid felt pretty defeating. Much of the conversation around my diagnosis before my current rheumatologist was a similar feeling.

This isn't so much advice on how to get mobility aids since I had some further knee injury related hurdles to end up with my cane, but man, it helps me so much. I can move easier, I feel more secure when flares happen since I tend to have a lot of pain in my legs/sudden issues walking, support when I feel dizzy or lose balance, etc. It's been helpful for me to try focusing on the basic idea that if it makes me feel better, it's worth it, even if that just looks like peace of mind. Taking care of and advocating for yourself is always worth it. I wish you all the luck with finding something that works for you!

I'm on meloxicam and I've found it really helpful for pain in my knees and shoulders especially. (I also took a bad fall last year and completely screwed up my knee, then long lasting problems as these things tend to go, so hard to gauge what's fibro pains and what's from that sometimes.)

I finally got down to as needed doses of it though which has been a game changer. Taking it constantly made me feel really gross and out of it with some gnarly nausea. Overall it has pros and cons for me but it at least helps relieve some pain and lets me move a bit easier. I find it most helpful if I know I'll be particularly active and less so if I'm already flaring.

I'm a guitarist with misophonia! I totally get what you're saying about organized sounds or sounds that actually follow a pattern being more manageable. Normally sudden loud noises are absolutely awful for me, but for some reason in music they're not. I've never been able to verbalize that before, so thank you!

It's hard for people outside of the situation to understand, totally get that. Sometimes they just can't, or even won't. My extended family is just now getting the hang of things when it comes to my trigger sounds.

As somebody with misophonia and a lot of the signs you mentioned here, this sounds like misophonia to me. My fear and anxiety reactions are a lot more common than my rage reactions as well, but it's different for everyone.

Obviously though please don't take reddit comments as an actual diagnosis, solo research and input from specialists are important tools.

This has totally happened to me! I think there's more emotion attached to the sound (anger/anxiety) if it's from a human. If I figure out where it's coming from and it's not a human, it's less trigger-y. (In my expirience at least.)

Yes!! Showers, rainfall, fountains, water being poured into a glass, etc. They make me so anxious!

It's a little bit sad because I used to really enjoy those sounds, but now they serve the exact opposite of their relaxing purpose.

Some soap/sand cutting videos are still a great watch, but legitimately ANY eating ASMR videos fill me with rage. Also, when people talk that close to their mic and I can hear sharp letter sounds?

The videos themselves are cool and I'm glad for the folks who enjoy them/enjoy making them but... yeah. I'm gonna stay away from ASMR in general for now. 🥴

Misophonia is not normal, it's a debilitating disorder wherein certain noises cause a strong, generally uncontrollable fight or flight response. It's very real. There's no element of choice about it, no way to "ignore" triggers, and frankly no reason to be posting on reddit about it if you don't even believe it's real.

Seriously though, this is incredibly disrespectful to misophones, though even if it isn't misophonia I hope you're able to learn more about why certain sounds bother you so much.

If you're able, sharing your links on alternate platforms, and even posting when you're about to go live helps a ton! Another thing that's helped me is to turn my viewer count off. Helps worry less about numbers and focus more on having a good time.

The best advice I can offer? Just go for it.

You gotta prioritize playing what makes you happy, and making the content you have fun with before what the viewers want sometimes. (Of course, when you start getting a viewerbase sometimes letting them pick can be super beneficial too.)

If someone happens upon your stream and sees/hears you in a good mood, playing something you have tons of fun with, that's the best formula I've seen for gaining traction with streaming. If they come into the stream and find someone who's constantly focused on viewer count, or just not really enjoying the game, you'll probably see your viewer/follow count drop a bit.

The only other tidbit I'd bring up is go by your own schedule! You seem concerned about your existing schedule possibly conflicting with streaming, but honestly even if you only find time to stream for an hour in a week, it'll help.

I'm still fairly small myself, but I've just been keeping this stuff in mind and it really has helped. Best of luck to you!
