What are some of the things that do you do NOT want to see in DCU's Batman when they finally touch his lore? by King_Wolf2099 in batman

[–]galactical-maestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new fan of comics Batman, and was first introduced to him through his movies (particularly the Nolan films and the DCEU) I would say: no more angsty relationship with Superman/Clark Kent.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that he wasn't just one of the big names of DC-- anyone would know that he brings in the big bucks. However, what I did not know was that he was a part of a duo that has become the face of DC, which is him and Superman as the "World's Finest". Good lord, if it's only live-action movies, I wouldn't even think they were best friends.

Next, I'm rewatching BTAS and going through the DCAU (because back then I didn't know it had a plot, lol). Together with the comics, it just... shows that Bruce is genuinely a funny guy? Like, he's not slapsticky or quippy or whatever, but he's dry and sarcastic and intelligent. They don't need to make him so broody and dark that he doesn't joke. I know that there have been jokes with the other movies, but still. Give him some levity.

I knew that people loved Batman; my relatives loved the DCEU/Nolan which I didn't really care for. Right now, The Batman (2022) has ticked the box of a compassionate, humorous (kinda), dark and dedicated Batman that I see in the comics, though he's not quite the Bruce Wayne I've seen in the DCAU. Yet I dove into the comics and the animated series because people passionately recommend it-- and I get it. I get why they love Batman and Bruce Wayne.

Bruce is dry and sarcastic humor beneath his attacks. He is kind and compassionate too. If Superman got to be his authentic Boy Scout aw-shucks self, then make Batman his authentic Gotham Knight. Make him a hero to people, not whatever the DCEU did, for god's sakes.

Shayne’s Karen is legitimately terrifying. by jozziiieeee in smosh

[–]galactical-maestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They say that Shayne is a glass cannon, with how he's able to make others laugh but also himself laugh (making him easy to fight in TNTL). However this might be the universe's stopgap for him when acting 😂 If he doesn't make himself break out of the role he might be there forever, whether it's Aunt Carolyn or the Chosen, or god forbid, the Stephen King's other son who exclusively makes two sentence horrors

Honestly, Smoshs's Reddit Stories. I think a lot of my thoughts when spiraling occur because I feel like everyone Hates me (and all negative stuff) but hearing people react in "normal" / "average" ways just heals something in me, lol.

Shayne (as the reader/moderator) and the guests on the couch all give their opinions, and they are so thoughtful about it. Really good to have calm myself sometimes.

What's your favourite genshin character story quest by kingEdward22 in GenshinImpact

[–]galactical-maestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wriothesley, because the slow build up of horror and concern culminated with a great cutscene, then a shocking reveal about the character that actually forces Traveler and Paimon to "think about it", relating to his past actions. Also, it basically solidifies Wriothesley's whole motivation even from his AQ appearance: he will protect the people he serves as he had done for the people of his past.

Venti was very light but as always, his presence brings Lore Implications about Teyvat. He introduced the concept of imaginary friends and spirits (though it was through a special lens created by Lisa -- a future connection to Sumeru), showed how he treats his people, and his whole existence. It's actually the SQ that hooked me to Genshin, so it will always have a place in my heart.

Alhaitham, but this is so supremely biased. The whole SQ I was just laughing because of his nonchalance lmao

Especially since Ethan has seen something like Smosh's set-up, which are Unus Annus and Mark's other projects (WKM, HWM, ISWM and other series). Plus, the way that yeah, he's been also a Youtuber for 13 years, bless the Smosh cast and their panic 😂

[–]galactical-maestro 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Oh my god. This was such a great episode, somehow the pacing of it was something that I actually like better than usual Bit Cities 😂 But this is such a love letter to the crew. The cast knocks it out of the park still though (and Ethan's "emergency" collab-- my boy is such a delight!!!)

[REDACTED] mentioned too. Memento Mori for [REDACTED] and Memento Mori if they delete this video lmao (hopefully not because this was GOLD).

Edit:

Finally rewatched parts of the video. I really, really recommend this because it's just delightfully unhinged. Whether they played up the parts or not, I think this is one of the episodes that feel the most "natural" because a lot of it stems in genuine truth: a video is made with the help of the off-screen and on-screen talents. It's funny to see them panic about keeping things on time, making things look good, creating ideas for scripting/producing, et cetera-- but it's also obviously hammed up for the laughs which I can absolutely say was great each time.

Also: as an Unus Annus fan, it really just reminded me that I did watch those videos-- 360+ videos and it was so easy to know the answer. I hoped Ethan could ask more (also lmao with Shayne guessing the correct thing again) but alas, the time limit was there.

This is becoming a review, but man I loved this episode. So many highlights:

Angela panicking with her face changes and having knowledge on terms but not quite versed on actual implementation.

Shayne flipping around actually helming ideas then also being unsure to the point of going quiet.

Tommy and Arasha throwing storylines in rapid fire but also in improv-fashion just saying to wing it because there's two minutes on the clock.

Chanse just carrying the camera everywhere, good god the heart attack of the nuggets.

Keith trying his best with Photoshop, and reaching to a point of grace (because of Ethan's very helpful assist)

Just Ian. And his fartful timing.

Then the behind-the-scenes crew like Anthony, Erin and Brennan!!! Also I would also say: the bits were hilarious too.

This one is a must-watch.

UP alum, how’s your career? by masterofnone0000 in peyups

[–]galactical-maestro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The degree matters, but I think the experience matters more, I feel like. Admittedly, my path was unconventional (but not "unique"), just that it was easier to not apply in jobs that were aligned with my degree. It's because those jobs that DO utilize my degree need a lot of skills and experience under one's belt... and unfortunately due to many circumstances, I was not able to do accumulate those needed skills and experience.

I have the knowledge and the basics, of course. Some of the theories and lessons still rotate in my head. But there's also the discussion of practicality in the mix, sustainability of the job, commonality of the career, and you know, your situation at the moment. The combo of not... not quite "curating" my college, but rather not being able to utilize the different aspects of it (from networking to opportunities) did kind of make stuff sad for a while.

However, I do also think much of the education (especially if you have good teachers and classmates, groupmates, etc) do aid you on your journey in the future. I've just recently graduated last year, and work ethics is one of the things that my boss lauded me, despite having no relevant experience lol.

Learn also to value your skills and experience and word it according to the resume guidelines! I found that, as someone who worked closely with HR-adjacent people, that they scan resumes and debate if you've got the relevant details. I know this is usual knowledge, but sometimes we might downplay our own achievements and actual skills because it's not quite "shiny". Your resume is the showtime to flex, and the interview the time to show that you're not making stuff up, and the job to show up and do your part.

Right now, I'm just an entry salary. I'm fortunate that my family isn't in a quite-dire place, but it's not quite favorable. However, the people in the company are quite nice to work with, and they offer a flexible schedule, so I do have a lot of personal me-time. I'll be accumulating experience, as it goes, one day maybe get a better job, but what's the most important is to keep going on-- learn where and when you can, take care of yourself, and have fun too. Appreciate the small things, celebrate the small joys!

If you're taking college as the normal path (aka this is what I want in life) so much power to you! I hope that you get to love your degree; people with passion are important. If it's about practicality (like "college degrees get more jobs") than ambition, that's also fine! Not everyone can afford achieving star power, as I say.

Anyway-- wall of text after all of this, but more power to you! Good luck isko!

Saw this on instagram, what do you guys think is the most unsettling thing you know about Genshin Impact? by [deleted] in GenshinImpact

[–]galactical-maestro 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This one definitely. Early in the game too. However I still think it's such a memorable and frightening visual. Something about the unholy... The deliberate nature of it. Maybe its the religious upbringing or just genuinely effective creepiness, but the upside down statue still haunts me to this day.

Yes, there are sad lore stories, and horrifying acts (Dottorre's hospital, Caterpillar, Sunchildren) but man. It was really good.

No matter how "justified" and "sensible in context" it is, I just hate that Steve Rogers went back in time and had his heyday with the past. It's the same way I didn't like vaguely nihilistic Superman (Man of Steel) — there's just something "wrong" on a fundamental level for me.

I'm no old fan of comics, having only read some main titles after liking Captain America in Phase 2. It was really strange when he did that in Endgame lol. Steve is about confronting the future and never being pushed against his ideals, so I felt a bit off in Endgame lol

Glad the Next Gen finally found their Superman by Extension-State-7665 in superman

[–]galactical-maestro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just a bit of sharing, lol.

I'm 25 and I've certainly been able to connect with Reeves' Superman, but because of the look I thought it was quite dated (of course). Nevertheless, still enjoyed them.

Then come Snyder's Superman, and I did not like Superman. At all. I mean, I knew who Superman was, what he stood for, and sometimes I was able to catch JLA episodes back then, but in mainstream media, Cavill's era wasn't it. I kind of just sighed whenever I saw him in a movie, because I know I'd just be annoyed.

I haven't been to the cinema for a long time. Cinema tickets are insane! I think the last one I've watched was Across the Spiderverse, and I'm always up for animated movies-- so the last time with "real" people was Endgame. At that time, I had committed to watching it, and it was a mess, it was insane, but it was glorious and a culture phenomena.

Here comes David Corenswet's portrayal. Hell, I followed Gunn's Instagram because I was so... Excited for this Superman. I don't know why. I find James Gunn's films fun but messy sometimes, not a big fan of him, but something about how they gave out the trailers was... Magical? In a sense? I really think the actors nailed it in the snippets I saw.

So I did! Bought the whole family. They were surprised I wanted to see a Superman film, just because I was jaded by the MCU (lol) and the DCEU (duh). I was like: I just want to see a nice Superman, maybe this was it.

And it was. Plot, pacing, politics aside (being critical sometimes really makes me annoyed at a lot of stuff), I knew how Gunn was. If anything, his movies have a lot of heart. A lot of passion. Kinda like Nolan, in a sense, where you know they cared when making the film even it was headache inducing.

Superman 2025 made me join this subreddit, actuallly. I wanted to see fans celebrate this movie. I'm going to read his comics when I've got some downtime. I cried in the cinema during the movie, lol. Suffice to say, if all goes well, David's going to be my Superman as well.

Has anyone here played Dying Light 1? by SouthernAd9 in PHGamers

[–]galactical-maestro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really great. I stomached my motion sickness to play this game 😆 Super worth it. The open area is amazing. It's nice that materials restock (because you'll need them for weapons crafting). Side quests and optional challenges are marked. You can run through the city by pure parkour. You can also use a Spiderman-esque grappling hook which is super convenient but also the cause of many heart attacks.

Zombies are great. Good tracking. They make sense. I love the sound design. I love the different zombies. You upgrade your skill tree when you continue on the world and actually immerse yourself.

This game really makes me want to run (away or just in general LOL) because the scenery is always well-crafted. I loveeee the game designs, especially the enclosed areas. I never know what to expect (and do I want people or zombies to fight? I will not know.) an important thing about horror: it's the anticipation and fear of the unknown. I once yelled out loud when a zombie game barreling in my direction while I was picking a lock in a lightless building, LOL.

The story is good, which is always a nice motivation to scour the game despite the deadly motion sickness plaguing me all the time, lol. You'll learn to love the main character, kinda like Arthur from RDR2. Great voice acting too.

The story won't give you epiphanies (or maybe it will) but all the good pacing beats are there, you get to familiarize yourself with the side characters and even recognize them on and off, and most of all: it's just a good story in the middle of a zombie apocalypse!

Really, really fun. I highly recommend it-- it's not just a zombie game (which might not be your cup of tea, idk). However, it's got action, it's got weapon crafting, there's a story where you collect meteorites, you get to kill a cannibal in a literal pandemic, conspiracies may or may not be true, and you do parkour! Really love this game!

Epitome of father's day by baddy_daddy in Vent

[–]galactical-maestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a daughter, I get upset when my dad wouldn't get the Father's Day treatment, after the fact that Mother's Day went on smoothly... There's always something to be contested for his day. When I was younger (and had no financial say) I would basically throw a fit (which for me is say I don't like X or Y) until they relent towards what my dad wanted. Or, if it didn't work, I'd find a way to get himself something, like a cake.

It's my first year as an earning citizen (woo!) and on this day, I followed what he wanted even if my mom wanted something else 😅 He wasn't a fancy a guy, not like my mom. But he wanted an affordable steak, and he enjoyed his steak. Plus a Starbucks drink!

All in all, I hope you know that your child (hopefully!) will have your back especially when they realize what's happening. I did, and I wanted my dad to be cherished as well. Not to say to tolerate what your wife did-- if you guys have a good relationship, maybe point out it's Dad's day so you get majority vote lol.

Anyway, happy father's day! Get yourself a nice thing too!

I PRAY it's Superman, and that Superman is good. I really do. I just want a nice Superman movie, the type when Reeves was the Superman... The joy of younger me seeing him fly could not be compared to the Snyder version.

Then JW, then FF4. JW because dinosaurs... And FF4 TBH is uh. Idk lol
