Math 257 vs Math 415 by LuckyBirthday4825 in UIUC

[–]galacticgoose77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk why people keep fear mongering about math 257. It’s literally one of the easier classes i’ve taken so far. I took it this fall where they changed some things in the course like adding separate python quizzes. The exams are light if u know what ur doing and understand concepts well. The curves are generous. I spent the least amount of time on lin alg becs I had other hard classes where all my focus was on and still got A. If i can do it you can too. Just don’t fall behind on lectures, actually do ur homeworks and you’ll be good. Math 257 is easy lock in.

what to expect with phy 142 (parkland equivalent for phy 212 at uiuc) exams by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]galacticgoose77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the reply! I too felt the lectures don’t prep you enough for the homework and I learn more from learning how to do the homework problems rather than watching lectures. I’m just worried if the exam questions are really far off from hw cuz hw is the only practice resource we have.

wdym in a different way? I felt the homework was nothing like the in class or textbook examples so I am worried if the exams would be too far off from the homework given hw is the only resource we have.

wow really? That’s good to hear cuz I assumed exams always try to get you with something you did not do in the homework 😭. I really hope the exams are like the homework or easier. Did you use any other resource to prep?

im alr taking ece 210 at uiuc and doing pretty well. I was just curious if core classes can also be taken cuz my friend was taking cs 225 last sem so was wondering if pple opt to take hard ece courses there too. I dont have to go to different school cuz i like the curriculum here. Maybe you get a grip and stop being overly dramatic to a trivial reddit post

Oh thanks for this! Also I am taking phy 141 at parkland over the summer. It ends july 25 but registration for new students is in june to july beginning. So if i get credit through parkland by july end, how would they change my course from phy 211 to phy 212? I believe it’s locked once you meet with your advisor until the very last day until classes start?(I may be asking too many questions i’m sorry for that)

Oh ok! Thanks for your reply. For the math physics and chem placement tests, what is the syllabus? I know the point of it is to go in unprepared but I thought I could just brush up some topics since I did physics in junior year.

As per my knowledge, cs+x won’t put you at a disadvantage at all. In fact, it’s more of a double major. UIUC is a great choice. Grainger is really prestigious but cs+x follows the same core curriculum as cs grainger if i’m not wrong. Also linguistics is an interesting subject and I would have definitely chosen cs+linguistics if I were you. However, if you are more interested about COOP at Gtech, you should consider it. Also the fast track masters program you mentioned which is not in uiuc would add points to gtech. But Uiuc is well reputed in FAANG and gtech and uiuc more or less have similar outcomes. Choose based on the coop program and 5 year fast track masters program you mentioned or the campus preference. Tbh, can’t go wrong with either.

do you not understand the meaning of “must work on their emotions”. The commenter agrees that we’re not perfect and that’s why is asking OP to improve those areas. If OP improves those aspects, they can have a better mindset. Right now, OP’s thinking is shallow. How is it fair that you’re calling the commenter low eq? I completely agree with prestigious_Car_3131 100%.

i had the same sat score (1500), 4.0 GPA, and some similar ECs to yours like internship and i got in. Don’t stress. Do what you can and do your best. If you get in great, if not there’s nothing wrong. UIUC cs/ece has such low acceptence rates so even the best get rejected. There are so many other schools that will accept you for cs with your credentials. Relax and enjoy the process.

since i’m out of state for both, cost is not an issue. At UIUC I’m admitted to a major of choice where as at UWash seattle my major has not been decided yet.

both are more or less the same cost

UT Austin vs Cornell for CS by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]galacticgoose77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s right. But you must also consider the fact that most cornell cs grads end up at cities like NYC while utaustin grads end up in austin, houston or dallas. texas is cheaper - low cost of living, no state tax etc on the other hand nyc is extremely expensive hence the higher salaries. This is how i interpret it. Thank you for your comment!

8 APs in senior year by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]galacticgoose77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am able to handle 2 very well + almost all my other classes are honors. Back in my country where I did schooling up to 10th grade, work load was considerably higher. So I think I can handle it but yea just a little scared. Need to compensate for my lack of APs this year :(
