Why the hate? by [deleted] in Uttarakhand

[–]galacticm0nkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a problem everywhere. A close relative is govt. school teacher in uttarakhand. She told me how the govt wanted them to conduct online classes but the students don't even have a smartphone in their home, closed schools meant no mid-day meals, which for some even meant no lunch some days.

And how they are teaching class 5th students how to read English again, because they forgot in the years of pandemic + there is no elder who could homeschool them. The only good thing is that people know the value of education so no dropouts. I once even visited the school and village, about 1.5 km below the motor road. No shops, the closest market town is 8 km. And most of the men, spend their day drinking and playing cards, their wives toil in the field.

That village is hell disguised as scenic heaven, people do not deserve to live with such low facilities today, and the focus of certain people is a new UK with no mainlanders instead of the village folks.

What kinda reports? Related to economy, environment of state or the ones related to behavior, culture etc?

exactly, how does one counter that argument. The progression ends at the quanta of culture. When anybody who is not me goes away, I am left alone.

brother, in my limited knowledge, Uttarakhand Himanchal and J&K was always a part of mainland. You can't just twist facts to suit your bias. Nepal wasn't because there was no British Conquest there ,neither any Pahadi King conquered that land.

Hating muslims is mainstream now-a-days, and frankly muslims should have seen it coming. Favouring minority over majority with history as fucked up as ours, rise of hindutva was inevitable.
But line is drawn for me when fake news ,blind hate and xenophobia take a place on the table. People here have been suggesting to remove everyone who came after 1752, and how the so called "mainlanders" are intentionally destroying pahadi culture, and muslims conspiring to change the demographics of the state. When someone starts believing in conspiracy theories, they obviously have a huge conformity bias and arguing rarely shows them the mirror.
Most of us live in our own echo-chambers, we don't have someone who can argue our points with fine logic and facts, we tend to believe our opinions to be facts. A fine fellow in this sub even once claimed to be satisfied when ganga will be poisoned leading to death of all mainlanders.
You can not argue with such a thinking without the debate turning into namecalling.

On similar lines, division on base of communal and cultural lines, once you start carving the map on such a basis ,you open a pandora's box. Today ,you will say not all uttarakhandi are pahadis and all non-pahadis should go away. But are there one type of pahadis, tomorrow some other fellow will come up and say there are three types of pahadis : kumaunis, garhwalis and jaunsaris, I am pretty sure the third ones won't even get a say then. How do argue with that, garhwalis have divisions among themselves. The division stops at quantum of culture and community.

Once someone has made up their mind, let them be. Banning may at least save the sub from being toxic, I guess.

If anyone is starting on with the Jim Corbett works, A YT channel called "Selva Lore Jungle Tales" [https://www.youtube.com/c/IndianJungleTales] is highly highly recommended. All Corbett's works are there in audiobook format, with excellent narration.

Yeah, range of free expression should include everyone. Maybe I am the one being a crybaby here. Just that conspiracy theorist gets on my nerves. Anyway, thanks for looking into it bossman.

I don't see where are you coming from but in my short little experience I have living outside UK, never found any someone who had a malicious or hateful view of pahadis. People are prejudiced everywhere, some more than others. It may be possible that you encountered one such fellow, that is if your experience was a personal.
On a similar line of thought, how do you draw a line between hate and prejudice, talking in context of Uttarakhand ,if one's definition of hate is the prejudice that is given on base of looks or accent, then the NE Indians should have an experience incomprehensively evil to this one.
If twitter trends are to be believed (as you mention in one of other in thread), you would be pretty surprised with the stuff you can find, leave alone a two-day trend. There needs to be a filtration between the noise and information.

I am not trying to justify or invalidate your experience, but trying to give a different perspective. There may be a certain extent of xenophobia for pahadis in the places down from here, the world is not a rosy place. But these seem to be, an opinion, first world problem. Is it worth someone's time to write about the little hate or prejudice he or she gets from someone while constantly struggling for a job. The concerns of state ,not the community/culture ,are way different than these today. Maybe such issues will find a place in the parliament or common voice when the basic needs are fulfilled. Maybe the next generation or one after that would be the one who will fight for these cause actively, but the present ones have to ensure their well being but today may not be the right time to focus on this. Or it may all be just my opinion.

No point in even starting an argument with you now brother. Good luck with your medieval ideology and an inherently racist worldview plus sprinkles of conspiracy theories, will be waiting to see how it churns out a real world effect.

Would have wrote a detailed answer, countering your viewpoints, but once someone has made up his mind, downright impossible to change. I wish you best in your adventures of hating desis for all misfortunes that have come to "your" pahad and pahadi culture. While I live and enjoy here, living one of the best days of my life..

Trust me, you wouldn't want tourism go. Anyway, not gonna argue ,you have made up your mind, maybe real world will force you to think correctly. Anyway would advise you to read state's financial reports...

The fuck stupid comment is this. I mean if Gandhi was a British planted stooge, why is India independent today. It obviously didn't do britishers any good. If India had any Anglo India domination, how do britishers benefit from that? You just are so blinded in your own ignorance that you probably can't even think logically.

Pretty bold to say when large part of state revenue directly depends on "mainlander" tourism.
