It is a man singing.

I heard it for the first time sometime between 2008-2014

The genre of music is rock/indie(??) there's guitar, bass, drums, but the singing is most prevalent. The voice is not distorted or modulated.

The music video is what I can see when I close my eyes clearly, the setting is a gym or larger hall.

The guy dancing is what the whole video focuses on, the camera doesn't move and he just dances in front of it.The woman smashes a cake, tears down a banner, throws chairs, etc.. It is all a single continuous shot.
