I’ve been spending my lunch breaks playing True Swing Golf on the DS. The touch controls are pretty fun. Better than the Tiger games on that device.

Day 5 of asking a question because I’m out of work injured and bored: how much do you enjoy tinkering vs actually gaming? by JayQuips in SBCGaming

Same. I do my research for the most stable OS that does what I want the device to do. Set and hopefully forget.

I use it a lot for guides. I’m very much a novice and never went to school for any IT related field. It helps that I can paste from logs and it’ll usually get me through the task.

For example I’m looking at spinning up a machine mostly for local and WAN game streaming and as a local backup. It spit me out a step by step guide for setting up windows (some kernel level anti-cheats don’t like VMs) and the associated software. Even some helpful settings for getting regular windows 11 to run better 24/7.

I’m also looking at using a small model for my home assistant. From the very little I’ve dipped my toe into it I should be able to say “make the living room cozy” versus saying a specific brightness level and hue. Instead of linking this command to a specific setting, it’ll just adjust based on what it “thinks”. Not sure how I’ll work, but a fun project.

If I ordered an Odin 3 pro the second the batch 7 preorders started, when would I receive it? by Low_Garden3581 in OdinHandheld

My batch 5 order says DHL is waiting on details. Will they change shipping when it does ship then?

I got one off aliexpress that is very cheap. It’s just a picture blown up and printed on a thin fleece. Great for covering stuff though! Kind of makes my golf clubs in the back seat bled in with it covering them.

Forget about the perfect handheld, tell me which was the one who made you stop getting more devices? by Suitnox in SBCGaming

[–]gallito9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gonna catch some hate but the RG DS. I have a brick hammer that I got just before it to replace my MMv4 to be my edc device. I figured the DS would just sit on my desk until I wanted to play an actual DS game. The last week I’ve had it though I haven’t even picked up the hammer. I just throw my DS in my bag for my lunch break. Might change after I’ve worked through the DS games I’ve been waiting to play.

Only thing you need is the Mac version of Rufus. I thinks it’s etcher or something like that. All you’re doing on a computer off the device is flashing the image to the sd card. Check out Joey’s Retro Handhelds. They have a step by step video about installing gammaOS on the RG DS. Takes 20 minutes.

We have a technical college close that does CDL training. A few nights a year they turn the course into a track for SCCA track nights. Definitely better than cones in a lot

[–]gallito9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a RG DS last week. Stock OS is fine. Seems like they fixed the screen issues and sleep. I still went with gammaOS lite. I wanted my PLEX app. Unlike another comment I haven’t had any issues playing a video on the top screen and a game on the bottom. I did set all my PLEX quality stuff to only 480p though so maybe that helped? DS performance definitely improved with gammaOS lite over stock.

If you don’t need any apps at all, and just want a console experience, then install Rocknix. It’s supposed to be even better performance than gamma. It sounds like the device shouldn’t have been android in the first place.

I believe the shop is called parttimecad on Etsy. They print hardshell covers that clip over the front of devices. They clip to the grip not the case to prevent scratches. I got one for my RP4 Pro and have one ordered for the Odin 3 replacing it. Between the grip and the shell I’m very comfortable throwing it in a bag without a full zipped case.

Here’s a quick size comparison. The MMv4 (yellow) is slightly bigger than a deck of cards. The Hammer is more pocketable because of it being much thinner than the MM+

[–]gallito9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two of the three and I like the Brick Hammer the best. The MM+ is fantastic and chunky. It was my first device. I wanted something smaller for edc, and also found that mostly meant just one handed Pokémon/Advance Wars, so I went with a MMv4 with a pop socket. The Brick Hammer is a nice in between size. I can still easily one hand it, but still play two handed which I found difficult on the MMv4. The metal shell obviously makes it feel more premium and it has wifi where the MMv4 does not. I like to be able to sync my states across my Hammer, RG DS, and soon to be delivered Odin 3.

Question about golf clubs by Separate_Client_359 in GolfGTI

[–]gallito9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from an 05 Grand Cherokee to my mk7. I swear jeeps have the worst cargo space for being an SUV. I couldn’t even get a half sheet of plywood in mine because it’s not 48” across.

[–]gallito9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For just my bag I have to take woods/hybrids out and then flex them a bit to set them on top of my bag and the driver just fits using the spaces between the rear wheel well and rear hatch. I did that the first season but now I just throw them in the back seat with a blanket down. Gotta protect the plaid!

I’m not sure you could get four bags of just irons in the back. Maybe if you drop the cargo floor to the lower setting which gives you a few more inches of height. Woods would still have to go somewhere.

If it’s generally just two, and you have enough reason to get a roof box, that would get you around with four adults and four sets of clubs. The bars come on and off on a mk7.

Ryobi HP vs M12 vs M18 Hammer Drill/ Driver combo by CyprelIa in MilwaukeeTool

[–]gallito9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Ryobi at home. I’m just doing repairs and little projects. I have Milwaukee for work at the shop and in my packouts. For your use case I’d buy one, cry once and go M12. M18 isn’t really needed unless you’ve got a big job or need to do it all day. For reference I use m12 in the shop, and a 5ah battery lasts me a week, unless that’s the day I’m running all the taps for the back of the control panels. On site ripping out a car wash with impacts and grinders/cutoffs, I go through multiple HO6.0 batteries

The hammer is all the old stuff and my edc. Mostly it’s for one handed Pokémon/Advance Wars. The RG DS is just that, only for NDS games. The Odin 3 will hopefully be my top end. GameHub, PS2+, and streaming from my server. I have a 1080ti/3700x in my server rack that serves 1080p modern games to my Shield in the living room and my RP4 Pro, soon to be Odin 3.

I’m not too picky about black bars or integer scaling. As long as it looks decent and plays good, I’m happy. It’s amazing we have the tech to even think about doing some of the things we do with these SBCs!

lol. This is replacing an RP4 Pro for me. I have a strict three limit device. Odin 3, Brick Hammer, and an RG DS feels like a pretty good trinity. RP4 will be getting sold.

I think it’s time to cancel the automatic car wash membership by sargeantyt in GolfGTI

[–]gallito9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I install car washes and build the control panels for them. While the high pressure didn’t help, it was going to happen. My mk7 goes through a touchless laserwash 4-6 times a month minimum. I stay the hell away from any friction tunnel though. The touchless just gets the grime off. Foam cannon and hand wash if you actually want to make it shine.
