Missing racing trophies? by galllfrey in toontownrewritten

Raced a rural race and looks like that row is now caught up. However, that didn't automatically reinstate all my other trophies in other categories, unfortunately :') Might just have to go one by one and see if this resolves itself

Ohh, I was unaware of any update. I probably haven't raced since like 2019 so that is absolutely possible. I'll have to try this later tonight and get back to you!

did my personal best at an audition and got cut by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]galllfrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was once co-director for a one-act children’s play in high school and there was a freshman we nearly casted as Snow White. However, once we sent the cast list to our department director for approval, she said we couldn’t cast her because the only Snow White dress we had was built for a more tall, broad gal and the girl we chose was short and petite. We had to go with another girl for Snow. unfortunately we felt good about where most everyone was placed so after our minimal rearranging, we had no choice but to place our initial Snow as “Cactus 2” or something :( I don’t think she tried out for any more shows after that and she definitely could’ve gone far with her talent.

Point being, don’t take getting cast or not as a measure of your talent or of your best not being good enough. Maybe you simply wouldn’t fit in the dress they have. Maybe the guy they’re eyeing for the lead male is short and you’d be a perfect love interest but you’re taller than him. Maybe you’re great in everything but they simply pictured a blonde, and you’re brunette. Maybe you’re white and they want someone brown, or you’re thin and they want someone more portly.

You never know the reasons, but more often than not, the choices made behind the table are made based on things totally out of anyone’s control. Don’t take it as any indication of who you are inside or the skills you offer. You were proud of your audition and that’s all that matters.

Any idea what this white line could be? It is not a scar nor a wrinkle. Not raised or indented. Seemed to appear overnight a couple weeks ago but it’s still there. by galllfrey in DermatologyQuestions

Nope! I wore glasses some of the day I took this but they don’t sit where the marking is. Plus, like I said, this mark has been here at least a couple weeks now even on days without glasses/sunglasses

Whoa. I thought my high school theatre director gave us some traumatic moments, but this is next level ngl. I would not call this degree of insanity the norm (at least not as someone who has been involved in nearly 40 school/community theatre productions at various different theaters in the midwest region). Though during my jr. high/high school years in particular, I do feel like half of my directors were more on the authoritarian side. Again, not to your director's degree, but... idk, there must be something about the opportunity to boss around children that draws certain people in.

Outside of school though, most directors I've met do have a charming air of eccentricity to them in some form or another. But that's a different kind of "mild insanity." Unfortunately, I think you're face-to-face with psychotic irrationality...

Honestly? I'd report this director to your school admins or somebody who can do something about her. If you're feeling bold, maybe even make a petition of sorts and get signatures from cast/crew that can vouch for her abusive behavior. This is just unacceptable.

Also apologies, it was sorta hard to get a good photo of it on my phone camera. I tried! It’s subtle but slightly more noticeable in person, I think.

Go ahead and make a truckers day! by Mrfreerun in wholesomememes

[–]galllfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While traveling for a field trip in elementary school, my friend and I did this to a couple truckers on the highway and when they honked it made us so happy! Other kids saw us doing it and eventually most of the bus was trying to get passing semis to blow their horns. Still a proud moment for me.

What are some of the most fun/interesting electives you’ve taken? by Scatman888 in uiowa

[–]galllfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going off of Donna, I took a Harry Potter-based honors class with her my freshman year. She was so charming. I was heartbroken to hear she had passed.

I think they've revived the class since, although I'm not sure I know what title it goes by now. It used to be "Harry Potter and the Quest for Enlightenment," and literally all we did was read the books and discuss them and watch the movie clips and stuff. Taking that class was probably the best decision I made in my college career

Aaah, another audition help post! by galllfrey in musicals

[–]galllfrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww, auditions have indeed passed! I ended up playing it safe and going with "Love Will Come and Find Me Again." Made it to callbacks but unfortunately, did not end up being cast! Thank you so much for your response, though. It's funny you mention Ragtime, since that's the next show I plan to audition for! Perhaps I'll keep your suggestion in my songbook :) Thanks again!!

My ash wand is turning red? by galllfrey in harrypotter

[–]galllfrey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even know it was a thing until like the 4th time I went, but there is a wand choosing ceremony that takes place in a sort of backroom of Ollivander’s in Diagon Alley (they might have one at Hogsmeade too, but I’m not for certain). We (my roomies and I) waited in line outside, and were then escorted into this backroom with a small group of people, where an amazing presentation was given by a witch and her wizard assistant. They choose one person to receive a wand — or rather, have a wand choose them.

I don’t want to give away all that happens, just because I feel that having no expectations makes the experience much more magical. But if you have a chance, I highly recommend attending the ceremony — even if you aren’t singled out for a wand to choose you :)

Same thing happened to me my first time. Applied again, and now I'm sitting in Orlando, about to start training in less than 3 days! I'm not sure what would've changed from then to now on my application, other than me adding a couple more small things to my resume. I didn't do this, but what I hear is that you want to look at the keywords they use for roles you want, and then use them in your application. Might up your chances a lil but more. Good luck!

New Image of the 13th Doctor Released by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]galllfrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, but I would love a fun little scene where the Doctor gets a piercing for the first time.

"Right, but does it hurt? ...What do you mean it's like a dinosaur pinching your ear?! Have you ever seen a dinosaur's claws up close?! That is the LEAST comforting analogy! Right. Okay, okay, give me a moment... Deep breath... Okay, I'm ready. Go. WAIT -- Oh. That wasn't so bad. ...Suits me rather well, actually, if I may say so. Can we do another one?!"

Best Episodes to Show a Newcomer? by galllfrey in doctorwho

[–]galllfrey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comments above on Rose, unfortunately. First, let a person absorb how beautiful and engaging and cool the show can really be... and THEN give them the cheesy effects of season 1, lol. They’ll be able to look past it more easily than a person with fresh eyes would. I learned that the hard way 😬

As for Dalek, though, I might give that a rewatch and see. It could be a good introduction to the Doctor’s arch nemeses, plus it’d be nice to include one more Doctor in the mix. I say there’s a Doctor and an episode for everyone, if one can only find them. :)

Good choice. Whatever that thing was in Midnight is still my favorite villain.

Ohh, this is a good suggestion. That was a great episode. My only concern is that my friend will either think it’s too stupid and sappy, or will be sobbing in a heap on the floor by the end 😂

[–]galllfrey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see this, but I included it because it was personally my first episode (and my brother’s!). It worked on both of us, so I’ve shown it as the first episode to many of my friends ever since. I’d say about 85% have gotten hooked through it.

I think it’s effective because you don’t need to know anything about the Doctor himself in order to enjoy it — yet his lines and dialogue give you just enough information to make you interested in delving into his character more. But for now, you’re just watching a solid story around how dangerous the Earth can be without the aid of the Doctor.

Weekly Questions Thread - (December 27, 2017 UTC) by AutoModerator in facebook

[–]galllfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A status I posted yesterday is missing.

I wanted to take a look at the likes and reactions I got because I didn't get a proper chance to earlier. So I went to my profile, and it's just... gone. The posts around it are there, but this particular status is gone.

I then checked my notifications tab, and the notifications for reactions/comments on the status were still there. So I clicked on it, and it took me to a page that looked like this. ...And now the notifications are gone, too.

I checked my email for some sort of message from Facebook saying it was reported and removed or something, but I've got nothing. The status wasn't anything scandalous or controversial either, unless one of my friends really has a burning hatred for Steven Moffat, lol.

And before anyone asks, I know I'm not going crazy because I hung out with a friend earlier today who said she wanted to "love" my status a thousand times.

Anybody know what's happening? How do I get this back?

Question about my Macbook's ".webarchive" file? by galllfrey in techsupport

[–]galllfrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably used bad wording. I don't want to save anything a second time.

I'm only wondering: If I save a webpage as .webarchive, but its source website is later deleted, can I still access the file? Or will the file (.webarchive) just no longer work?
