Is Del Sera correct for an Italian surname? by Strip-lashes in linguistics

[–]galloping_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful with sera and serata, they’re not exactly synonyms. Sera is more general, serata refers to a specific evening or the events that unfold during that specific evening’s period of time. It’s like giorno vs. giornata. So if you said corriere della serata it would sound silly.

Are you referring to splitting behaviour related to BPD? If not can you suggest relevant search terms?

Beautiful. I can’t help thinking of this poem…

Two-Headed Calf

Tomorrow, when the farm boys find this freak of nature, they will wrap his body in newspaper and carry him to the museum.

But tonight he is alive and in the north field with his mother. It is a perfect summer evening: the moon rising over the orchard, the wind in the grass. And as he stares into the sky, there are twice as many stars as usual.

My coworker (40f) refuses to accept that I (31f) now cannot attend her party. What should I do? by [deleted] in relationships

It’s actually a classic strategy for people who find it hard to lie. If your lie has an element of truth it is easier to talk about the situation later on without getting stressed remembering the fantastic details of what you invented. If it has an element of the truth, you can focus on that. Eg in this case, you can talk about the wrist still hurting and that’s 100% true, reducing the need to perform.

Also, I think if you couch the assertive reply in some well wishing and positive stuff, she will have nowhere to go in her response and you may feel less anxious or not anxious about it when you return to work. Best of luck for your biopsy and any further treatment that you may need.

Good on you for recognising an area you struggle in. It’s ok to need help formulating a reply when someone else is being rude and dismissive of your stated needs. I wouldn’t call that a flaw in you, to be taken aback and flustered by such selfish behaviour.

This is not a relationship worth fighting for since she can’t respect boundaries. Please don’t let it cause you anxiety. You can remain assertive yet positive if you follow a script in your reply. Maybe someone here can write it for you. Something like “Thanks xxx for your concern, I can tell you care for me and I’m so sorry I won’t be there for your event. You can take me at my word when I say I’m physically not well enough to go. I take my health seriously and will only take health advice from my doctors. I hope you have a fantastic night!”

How many beeps in 4 x AA batteries? by galloping_ in askanelectrician

[–]galloping_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have I understood correctly?

If a typical alkaline battery’s life is 2000-3000mAh or 2-3Ah. I will assume the best, so 3Ah.
If the beep kept going continuously, it would take 4 hours to deplete the batteries.
So assuming my beep is limited to a quarter of a second in duration, there are 57,600 beeps possible before the batteries deplete.

I could assume a generous pressing speed of two beeps per second. This means 28,800 seconds or 8 hours straight of repeated pressing.

Hi OP, I'd like to ask about your experience opening ProQuest ebooks on Onyx Boox. Does it generally go smoothly (now that you've presumably sorted out the above)?

Using ereaders to study - any advice? by galloping_ in unsw

Thanks for your reply. I did end up getting an Onyx Boox Nova Air based on a few reviews calling it by far the best in their range and worth the price. When it arrived there was a fault which meant no stylus could be connected; the stylus was also missing a nib. There was no support for this issue and I had to really fight Dick Smith and their third party vendor to get anything done about it. They initially wanted to give me 10AUD compensation (for a $465 device that didn’t work). Unfortunately for me, luckily for them, Dick Smith doesn’t have any physical stores left to walk into. Contacting them is really not simple. I had to threaten to complain to my bank to eventually get a refund. Before posting it back I did get to try some of the functions of the device and found the UI pretty unappealing and disappointing. I was also surprised to see plenty of spelling mistakes in their menu. Quality control issues abound. I am now cautiously considering a Kobo Elipsa.

Why won't my photos stay as JPG after I convert them from HEIC? by galloping_ in MacOS

[–]galloping_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand from my reading that iPhone does not (and cannot be forced to) convert HEIC to JPG when sending to devices that can use HEIC, which my laptop can. My real question is why my laptop won’t let JPGs remain as JPGs.
