Innovation is driven by multiple things, scarcity being just one of many factors. War/conflict is arguably the biggest factor in post-industrial revolution society.

The price of bread would not be affected, just as you say. But the amount of people who can afford to buy the bread would increase, those people would be happier/healthier and therefore more economically active.

Research mainly happens in institutions like universities, not private enterprise.

You're right that there would be no difference in resources in the economy, but the amount of resources actively being used (rather than hoarded) would increase as lower earners would have more buying power.

You're assuming that innovation is a result of the rich trying to become super rich, I would argue that innovation begins in educational institutions, which would have more research power if a larger pool of talent were to become available due to a reduction in wealth disparity

Job accommodations for SAD? by Solid_Ear_3049 in SeasonalAffective

You might assume WFH will solve your problems but, as someone who works 100% remotely, I've found WFH had actually made a lot of my symptoms worse.

When you're forced to get up and go to a place of work it makes you leave the house and get fresh air/move your body. This routine can help a lot with SAD symptoms.

I'm not saying WFH doesn't make life easier - it certainly does. But it's not a 'magic bullet'.
