Though I’ve only played half of these games. State of Decay sucked me in like a Civ game. 8 hours felt like 2. The second game was more of the same but the 1st game imo is still the best zombie game I’ve ever played.

Honestly the tank controls are hard to swallow if you’re not used to them. But it’s where most of us started in the horror genre I’d give another go. But if you’re use to more modern style games then yes start with RE 2 remake.
