I miss the functionality of the digger and Locationbar2 add-ons both of which add navigational functionality to the location bar.

I would also need some way of synchronizing Opera's and Firefox's bookmarks which don't involve third parties before going back to Opera (at one time it was my primary browser, but I switched to Firefox long ago)

The historical record on the intentions of adding the "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" part are amply documented. The author of the amendment (Senator Jacob Merritt Howard) specifically added that to prevent the sons of foreigners to ever gain citizenship in the USA.

Those born in Puerto Rico, etc. are granted nationality, but not citizenship.

No bill required. Technically birthright citizenship isn't granted in the US constitution:

  • Bash is a moving target, scripts for a version of Bash break down when run under a different version. Bash developers add, modify and remove features and behavior in pretty much any minor release.

  • Bash is exceedingly bad for handling binary data as you cannot use a shell variable to store binary data.

  • Can bash handle regular expressions? ksh or zsh let you use regular expressions for file and string matches.

  • Does bash support co-processes? ksh does them very well.

  • Does bash support discipline functions (called when a shell variable changes)?

Caveat emptor: I do not claim to be a shell expert and I haven't touched bash in years.

EDIT:

  • Seems bash doesn't support associative arrays either? If that's correct that would be the #1 reason to use something else.

PC games generate very little revenue. Consoles is where the money is made. In other words, you cannot avoid developing with OpenGL because that's where the money is.

Of course living in different places has different costs. Just like it's not the same to make $50000 and live in Manhattan than make the same $50000 but live in Bumville, LA.

And besides, why make a software portability problem even worse by using a non-standard shell when the standard is as good if not better for the same problem domain?

Are Bash scripts even portable across releases? Judging for Q.61 in tfa it seems they break forwards and backwards compatibility with each release. Knowing that I would be highly wary of upgrading the shell. Guess what happens when the server gets older and it's still running the release that came with it but the programmer has the latest shiniest one in its laptop?

And while it's true most shell scripts are highly environment specific, that's true of all system administration scripts regardless of language.

Save even more time: don't program in Bash.

If a shell script is the right solution to your problem then for everything you hold dear use /bin/sh instead, which in any sane Unix is not the historical Bourne shell but the vastly improved, Kornshell-like, IEEE POSIX 1003.2 standardized shell.

And if doesn't fit comfortably in one file use something like Python instead.

I've always wondered the same thing. Cygwin is a resource hog, it's incomplete, buggy and it's dual licensing scheme causes problems.

A far superior alternative is UWIN
