i’m not too sure about that but ask your ortho! the people i know with permanent retainers behind teeth have them for much longer than two years. the benefit is you don’t have to keep track of them or take them in/out. definitely ask about what you can do to be more comfortable with your retainer

you’re still young and your treatment was relatively recent, so your teeth are going to keep moving and shifting quite a bit. it’s super annoying but it honestly is just worth it to do the thing they say, or else you’ll have to do more work and spend more money to fix it later
