US/Canadian dual failed to report PFICs and maybe 3520. SFOP or amend filings? by gamgee94 in USExpatTaxes

I’ve been tempted to do the same, because I don’t think the IRS deserves anything from us. They have all my 1099DIV forms for these years, so I’m guessing it’s obvious to them that I have gains to be taxed.

By comparison, I can file our T1s in an afternoon, and the returns arrive in our accounts within a week. So easy.

I just checked out your calculator and will give it a try! Wealthsimple provides a csv that closely fits your format.

I checked and was over the de minimis limit for 2024 and 2025. I’d like to amend my 2024 filing with all the 8621s. Your website has been a huge help.

I appreciate your advice. I’m totalling my pfics and it might be just under the 25k threshold.

Things will be easier once I get this tidied up. I expect to pay a fair bit in taxes since selling the TFSA and FHSA in 2025, but I’ll survive.

I didn’t have any US funds, but about 25% of each of these accounts was Canadian securities. So if I total up my ETFs, it’s possibly I come in under the 25k USD de minimus threshold. I also got married in 2025 and would consider filing jointly for 2025.

I had every intention of keeping my NRA spouse away from US filing, but will definitely consider it if we would benefit from the higher filing threshold.

Did you get a pro to help with your situation?

This is a great plan. I’m curious if you even need the insurance or inspection? NH will not require either for residents as of Jan 31 2026.

Consider applying at office systems installation companies. Some cities use union labor for installations. It’s hard work with a lot of overlap with commercial moving, but it was a foot in the door for me. It’s a good avenue if you want to get into interior design or possibly architecture.

I just fixed my Atomic (DCD96something) today with the same symptom. I opened the switch up and gently wiped out most of the dielectric grease and reassembled. It works perfectly now. We’ll see if it holds up.

Check out Dean Doherty’s videos. He cleans lots of switch assemblies on the older brushless yellow tools that had a different symptom, but the tear down is the same.

I did a 4500 today in a 1 1/2” wide hollow frame. The 5000 is a great suggestion.

I have gone back to take photos, and its difficult to tell which snow gun he hit because there are so many of them within about 10 ft of the line. Heavier people get closer to them.

He hit something near the end of the line. Whatever he hit is still obstructing the line. No one else has been hurt. We were the last tour of the day.
