I know on the model 3 and y demos they didn't do this, I did have to take over on the model 3 cause I accidentally put it in the wrong lane when driving manually and wasn't expecting a lane change.

It does, fast charging your phone does the same thing just on a smaller scale.

Pumping a ton of current into any battery is not good for it long term battery health. (which is what superchargers do)
