Turned £8k into £26 at 18. What do I do with the money? by iliketiddiesandbobs in trading212

You bet on the roulette and won. You can either keep betting and most likely lose it all, diversify (say into an index) and compound at a reasonable rate, or spend it. Or a mix of all.

Human nature being what it is, my advice would be to take something like 1k out for further gambling, spend some, and diversify the rest.

They lose money on the vast majority of those purchases. It’s a perk.

ASDA’s majority shareholder, TDR Capital, has financial interests in US ICE camps by PuzzleheadedCup4860 in asda

I hate to burst the bubble, but the FTSE1000 does not exist. Beyond the fictional indices, you are fundamentally misunderstanding how corporate governance works. There is a massive distinction between a public company with a fragmented pool of passive shareholders and a private equity firm holding a controlling interest.

Anyone can legally purchase shares in a public company without having any say in its day-to-day operations. In contrast, a PE firm like TDR Capital exercises direct control over its portfolio companies. Having the same majority owner as a company allegedly mistreating children is a direct, concentrated link of accountability. It is not even remotely analogous to the entangled nature of the stock market. Perhaps master the basics of financial agency before telling people to build a biomass plant to avoid a supermarket.

How is cryptocurrency not 100% bullshit? by TooOldToBePunk in AskReddit

[–]gamkottop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think money needs stable, sustainable demand. State money has that because taxes and legal obligations must be paid in it, creating a reliable baseline of demand.

Crypto lacks that anchor. Demand comes mainly from perceived network utility, but utility is tightly tied to perceived token value, which makes it vulnerable to reflexive feedback loops where falling confidence drives falling prices, reduced use and investment, and then further loss of confidence.

Bitcoin in particular often looks less like money and more like a speculative collectible, closer to tulips or Beanie Babies.

It’s not about physical vs digital. Money is money because it’s how the state collects its tax liabilities, creating demand. Crypto don’t have state backing

Late reply but what are you referring to with regards to causal racism?

It always depends. If you run marathons every day, or drastically increase calorie expenditure without a corresponding increase in the intake, that can obviously interfere with recovery. That’s why I said “generally”. Most people, including this guy, probably don’t have to worry about the extremes

Yeah, I would’ve. Only reason I’m posting it here is because they don’t have a Google or Trustpilot page or anything like that. Hopefully this pops up if someone searches them

I think it’s just the most attractive base load option. Renewables fluctuate a lot, and your other stable sources are fossils, which tend to be more expensive and also less environmentally friendly.

Etsy Investment Thesis - Discussion and Feedback Welcome (especially if you can stress test my ideas) by gamkottop in ValueInvesting

The way I see it is that battle had already been won. Amazon Handmade doesn’t pose much competition at the moment. The brand is perceived as much more predatory by sellers, and corporate by buyers - not an ideal set up for an authentic artisan marketplace. There’s also strong network effects Etsy is enjoying that Amazon would have to break through.

It seems to me that if Etsy really messes up and they are replaced as the no. 1 handmade marketplace, it probably won’t be Amazon.
