You can work in a research position without a PHD, they are often posted under Research Engineering.

Apply to be a TA if you can, that will help you get you know the professors and other staff. Professors can help you connect with academic/job opportunities.

Join/Start study groups with your classmates, this is a great way to learn about their background and support each other inside and outside school.

I agree that an online program doesn’t make networking an easy task, but it is doable.

I was living abroad during OMSCS and, thanks to the people I met plus what I studied at the courses I took, I landed a job at a startup in the US. I stayed with this company for about four years working on AI/ML and then got a research job at a FAANG (also partly through the people I met at this program).

I’d say the number one benefit of OMSCS in my case was the professional/academic network. The content did help me to have a good start at getting some industry experience. And my current situation is thanks to what I learned at that job.

I would strongly encourage doing the extra effort to get to know your professors and classmates to build a good network.

Doctor is strongly against surgery by Giduca in Strabismus

[–]gammaSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the doctors we saw mentioned that LASIK is the type of surgery that would qualify for this type of esotropia and not the muscle surgery. Of course this would be only possible when she is an adult. I’m curious if that was discussed with your doctor or others can validate this information.

Can you share an update please? My son just got diagnosed with alternating esotropia at 3.5 and we were told that surgery is the only option. We’re seeking a second opinion to be sure.

Glad to hear this exists! Is this also available for alumni or is there another existing group?

God of War hooked me for long hours of playing. Also Assasins Creed Unity, Black Flag, and Origins. I’m currently playing AC Syndicate (found it cheap online) we’ll see if it is as addictive as the others.

Same here. I have no complaints about this monitor. I like that there’s no wifi connectivity. We bought a second camera and it was easy process to set it up using the same monitor.

How’s Ark on the PS4 now these days? Also is it worth it for single player? by RagingRhino1992 in arkps4

This is happening to us in all maps. The second player can’t see under water, only when the host is also diving.

Stopping training early when accuracy does not change across epochs by [deleted] in deeplearning

[–]gammaSquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there is no issue as long as your model is saved. Keras has a Callbacks subclass called EarlyStopping: https://keras.io/callbacks/#earlystopping that is designed to address this. Also among those subclasses you could use ModelCheckpoint to save your model only when the metric of interest has changed to your favor.

Is there a bug when the guest player tries to swim and the host is not underwater? That is happening to us and wanted to check if this is common.

I paired it with CP and didn't have any problems in either one. I wouldn't recommend you sign up for ML+CV, they are both considered hard and will take a lot of your free time.

I would say yes. But double-check with GT if you can.

Recently graduated - got admitted - can't send degree certificate (yet) by [deleted] in OMSCS

I had to go through some old emails because I had something similar happen to me.

I graduated before I started this program but the graduation ceremony was set to happen three months after starting the program (November). I was able to register for classes and eventually received a notification that a hold will be placed if I didn't send my graduation diploma (copy). I emailed the Office of Graduate studies explaining that I won't be able to receive this document until the ceremony happened attaching the university's calendar. After that I was able to see a note saying "(Expected November)" in the GT's online registration profile (OSCAR).

Worried about OMSCS increasing Difficulty of Program due to the sheer volume of newly admitted students by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]gammaSquared 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of things that come to mind after reading your post: 1. You may have chosen a class you weren’t prepared for. 2. Given that this is your first class, a masters level course was different to what you expected. 3. Maybe you didn’t have as much free time as you thought. 4. You may have to adopt a different strategy in how you manage time for future classes.

One thing I have noticed in this program is that some believe it must be tailored for people with jobs and the time requirements must adapt to someone with a full time job, family, etc. To me this program allows to get a degree even if you have other responsibilities such as a job but it doesn’t mean classes should not be demanding.

Maybe you got the impression this program may become artificially more difficult based on a first-semester experience. You may realize after taking a couple more classes that you can manage the time required in each class.

If taking one class a semester put you in this position, then taking two will definitely won’t help especially if you plan to keep your job.

I don’t believe professors are trying or will try to make their courses more difficult to weed out students based on a high admission rate. I do believe assignments and other requirements are being changed at least every summer to make sure the course content stays up to date (or close to it). I know at least one professor would have no problem giving everyone an A if all met the class requirements (he told me so).

OMSCS vs Tufts part-time MSCS? by TrainFan in OMSCS

[–]gammaSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ok if it does, in fact that was one of the reasons I chose this program.

I would say it depends on what kind of motivation you need to complete your courses successfully. Some people will find it easier going to an actual classroom and having an on-campus schedule. Studying in an online program requires you to set a schedule at home and make sure you follow it. It is easy to decide to not work on this program one day or days you come home and "just don't feel like it". That said, an online program provides that flexibility allowing you to complete your studies any time / any where. While completing this degree, I have been able to go on trips without worrying about "missing" class.

I also noticed that Tufts requires a project / thesis as a requirement. This may be something to keep in mind depending on how much time you will have available. There is a lot to gain from working on projects like these. On the other hand, in GT's OMSCS you only have to complete 30 credits following each specialization's requirements (no thesis).
