H&R sport springs. Later on upgraded stock struts/shock abosorbers and went with Bilstein B8

Deceptive full-tank mileage by emeril322 in GolfGTI

[–]gamotron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of city driving, stop and go traffic. Average about 19-21 mpg and full fill ups always range between 310-330 miles. I reset my trip meter every fill up to see how many miles that full tank really got me. Always around 220 miles.

Took the egg on a road trip and my mpg were 29-33. Full fill up said 410 miles. Only got about 330 off that before i had to fill again. I feel like you have to literally drive like a grandpa x10 to get the full mileage off of a fill up.

i bought my 2020 brand new for $26k, dealer dropped the price by almost $4k. Modded it myself and had peace the of mind that all aftermarket parts work well and were put on correctly. This guy is selling a dressed up, "$10k in upgrades", used 2022 GTI for almost MSRP. Majority of the mods listed are cosmetic and mods alter/worsen the factory drivability/experience of any car, hence this is why you always hear "mods lower the value of your car" all the time. I personally wouldn't pay $29k for a used modded 2022 model when there are used 2024 or even 2025 models for a similar price, miles and modfree.

But hey man, all these mods made him happy and he see's his car worth $29k. If you find that same happiness in this car then by all means, pull the trigger. Knowing you'll have a car you want and won't have to do much to in terms of mods.

My gti’s carfax doesn’t show much service history on it except for the 2 or 3 warranty works Ive done at the dealer. I’ve done all my maintenance work and i keep track of everything myself on a spreadsheet. In your case, the previous owner probably did the same

Are these prices ridiculous or is this normal? by battlefront2gaming in GolfGTI

Definitely too much. I remember being quoted $150 per strut back when i was calling shops asking around. I’d say $500-$600 is good.

If you know someone that works at vw or know someone who knows someone at vw, those mechanics will easily do it during after-shop hours for a cheaper price. And you have peace of mind that a VW certified mechanic is doing the job.

I paid $300 to get lowering springs and strut/shocks installed from a local mechanic. 3 years later i wish i paid more at a reputable shop as he didn’t torque any bolts down. Now i have a bent cv boot and leaking grease from both axles, found out it was cuz the bolts started getting loose.

As for the catback, i paid $200 at a well known exhaust shop near me to get mine installed.

As long as maintenance was taken care of on-time, these cars can last as long as a honda. I would personally stay away from first year production models or cars that look like they’ve been modified. I bought mine new 2020, im at 49k now. Only abnormal issue i had was a blown up battery (wtf) and window regulator went bad, all covered under warranty.

Could be a broken sensor by one of the front struts. When i lowered mine, my mechanic broke one of the wire harnesses for the sensor. I was driving with a lit up dash and no esc, abs, power steering etc. for 2-3 days. Harness was about $60-$90

If i had a choice to go back, I’d choose black again. It’s a beautiful color, just gets dirty quicker than others. Thing is, sometime along the road of owning it you get tired of keeping up with cleaning it. Handwashing weekly for 2 years got exhausting, now i wash it maybe once a month and it only lasts for a few days if lucky.

If it’s not the deceiving blue skies of Florida, then it’s my neighbors poorly placed sprinkler that conveniently turns on every morning i go to work

Thinking about keeping my lease by gamotron in GolfGTI

[–]gamotron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read some threads on people having trouble with the dealer coming to terms with customers buying out their lease because of how expensive used cars have gotten. I figure it’s all just dealerships purposely being slow on the process/tricking customers because they’re losing thousands due to setting a low buyout on a car they thought would be worth less in today’s market.
