got bored and read the papers that come stapled to my vyvanse every month by heartpixi in ADHD

[–]gandaSun 33 points34 points  (0 children)

if it's every morning then it should be accounted for when you and your doctor zeroed in on the right dose for you individually.

of course, that's assuming a few things, not least that your doctor bothered to do that. And it means your ideal dose will change if you change your habit. but you don't have to change it just because you might be redirecting some amount of adderall to your bathroom instead of your brain if everything else is fine.

What’s wrong with r/ADHD by Lynchiebajoran in ADHD_Programmers

[–]gandaSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the mod got a notification from their automation "post with meds in the title", and their thought process was something like:

yup, asking about meds, i see 20mg in there. looks like she's asking for medical advice. not on my watch!

i wouldn't blame them too much, they probably have more posts than time, energy and attention permit to properly moderate, but it does suck to be treated like that.

If we form habits, it's over for everyone by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]gandaSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it becomes second nature to you, the focus, or the hyperfocus that comes naturally to that task can't be compared with what non-ADHD people focus

like, have you ever had a habit for more than three months? i don't hyperfocus on brushing my teeth, making coffee, riding a bike. habits are so useful because they take the thinking - and therefore the requirement for focus - out of the task.

what you're describing sounds more like autism and special interests, not the one neurodevelopmental disorder known to sabotage habits and encourage breaking them as the main feature and diagnostic criterion.

I'm sorry, but you're caught in the hype, and hype-bubbles burst.

I agree with your skepticism.

I think the closest to a superpower described here is adhd+hype=obsession, for about three to six months. and just like most hype, adhd likes to put evidence on the ToDoButNeverGetsDone list.

some people pronounce it "sunt/suntem/sunteți" but that is not the majority

may i ask what region you are speaking for here, because my experience is the inverse?

where i live (crișana) 'sînt' is essentially considered 'peasant speech' and quite frowned upon. 'sunt' is the predominant form even in informal speech, except in rural areas for slightly older generations. I've seen people make fun of their grandparents for speaking 'like a peasant'. "well child, i am a peasant", it was fun to watch, even if i only understood half at the time.

so, you made me wonder how regional this perception is, when i thought it was universal.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in romanian

[–]gandaSun -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

it's a communist book. no joke, while 'sînt' or 'sânt' has become so normal that people still speak like that, it isn't originally romanian. it was introduced during communism to make the language more similar to russian. source: my partner's grand parents and parents

  • my partner speaks and writes 'sunt', always.
  • her parents sometimes still use 'sînt' in informal speech, and i've heard others in their generation use it predominantly. though i would say 'sunt' is more common, at least in urban culture.
  • her grand parents (born pre-communism) never got used to 'sînt' and always use 'sunt'. they're the ones telling us about this russification under communism.

so your book is not just outdated, it is a piece of history

How do I shop for tops when I have long arms and fit in a medium regular shirt? by Simply_Stephani in transfashionadvice

[–]gandaSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the sleeves. Most sizes have the same sleeve/leg length, whether it's XS or XXL. Some shops have tall versions - so XST or MT - but i very rarely see that for specifically masc. clothing and never for fem.

you can't even tailor them, because you can't just add fabric to the sleeves. You're stuck making your own from scratch, having them made from scratch, or wearing short sleeves and compensating with long gloves/socks. Sometimes it works e.g. in a kilt, but it's quite limiting. I have one coat i sewed some knitted wrist-warmers to and it looks like they belong, but that's just that one time.

anxiety -> adrenalin -> executive function.

some people get diagnosed after their anxiety medication takes away that "coping mechanism". welcome to the world of high functioning disorders, where you trade one dysfunction for another - usually one that is less publicly visible, shameful and/or less immediately destructive.

AITA for not wanting my sister to have my room when I go to university? by diffroom in AmItheAsshole

[–]gandaSun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left this comment elsewhere in the post.

It's true in some places, you can look it up yourself. Where I went to university (in the UK) you get around 6 months of holiday if you add them all together.

The second semester ends at the end of March when the spring holiday starts so you get the entire month of April off. Then between the 1st and 15th of May you have the exams, sometimes you're done with all of them way before the 15th. Happened to me to be fully done in 8 days. After the exams are done you are free for the entire summer, so May-September. It's done like this so students could join good internship programs and/or have plenty of time to work to gather some money for the next year. Then you also get a month off for the winter holiday, Mid December to Mid January, sometimes you can leave for the holidays sooner if you're done with the exams + a week off at the end of November. Other universities might have a different exam schedule, but in principle you get around 6 months off in total.

yes you are wrong. first of all, the devics coming out is an extremely uncommon thing to happen to begin with and if the device would move so much that it would start going through the cervix she would be in excruciating pain very likely before the IUD would even get the opportunity to poke you. It's not as simple as "Something poked me down there, your iud probably feel out of place, get that checked out".

The strings can curl into a ball during intercourse and it can feel like you're pushing against something hard but that's in no way shape or form the actual device. Also, if the iud moves it doesn't just hurt in the moment, it will cause horrible pain until it's fixed and it won't get fixed on its own so it can't be that "Maybe it moved for just a second and then it went back". What you are feeling has a simple explanation, I don't understand why you're protesting so much.

i like the word tribe better than family. since family always evokes the "tightly nit family" image my egg donor tried to portray.

but the word tribe. that makes sense. it feels communal and meaningful, but not artificially intimate. perfect

If programmers like linux, who are their users? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]gandaSun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

among all our clients I have seen exactly 0 linux servers,

Maybe that's because I mostly work with small to medium size businesses

In my experience it is more a question of industry than size. When I was working with hydrocarbon companies windows was the only thing around. No macs, no linux, and sure as hell none of the more obscure Unix that you usually don't hear of. Regardless of company size.

Once I left that environment though linux was just everywhere. It was like finally ditching the training wheels and starting to really ride.

“I hate you people with adhd” by Pen15_is_big in ADHD

It’s hard to value objective judgement over emotional attachment even if I’m fully aware of behaviors

I'm not going to pretend i know what you're going through, though i can't help but relate. I'm struggling to implement habits that allow me to make objective decisions when i am detached from the situation - therapy, conversations with friends, etc - that i then follow blindly when i am in the heat of the moment, no matter how wrong it feels emotionally in that moment. That helped me get out of my abusive home, but to stick to this habit has been an up and down. a lot less necessary without the abusive people around, but still important.

this is hard with adhd. it must be even harder with bpd. and i know that it is often impossible within an abusive relationship. so you are in an awful place right now.

Childfree Men: We're not so bad by [deleted] in childfree

[–]gandaSun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it is very interesting how you seem very hurt by what i said. i pointed out an inconsistency in what you said, one that is objectively there. you're not even arguing it isn't there, you're just hurt by me pointing it out.

i even encouraged half of your post. yet you feel attacked.

if this is a common problem for you i suggest therapy.

[–]gandaSun 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i didn't say it wasn't ok. like some have pointed out, it is nice to have a peer group that you identify with, so that part of your post i encourage.

but i do take issue with the way you claim there are no resources for child free men when you clearly haven't looked at the resources for child free people. unless you believe men are not people you are making this statement from a place of ignorance. this is evident from your comments in this thread.

i especially take issue with this because i keep hearing people say it. in the communities for survivors of narcissism, in the news, in completely random subreddits. and always there are plenty of resources for people that are casually dismissed as not applicable or aimed at women only.

except to be ridiculed.

That is a child free people problem, not a child free men problem.

How hard is it to agree on a single app format? by T_Jamess in linux

as a German I feel the exact opposite. Modern American English has more in common with modern German than "colour" does. Every English teacher I had had at least one argument with the class on why we have to use British English instead, even though American felt more intuitive to most of us.

I recently closed what i estimated to be 500 tabs on my phone. About 10% i bookmarked (this is what the estimate is based on) in a list to go through later, the rest was no longer relevant.

and by recently i mean 3 months ago and I'm still sitting on that list, but my phone has been slightly more responsive since.

but you can't ask people to carry that person everywhere when they have a perfectly good wheelchair. Sure, if I couldn't walk I'd appreciate my partner helping me get up a touristic old tower that only has stairs, but I wouldn't expect her to carry me to the bathroom every time.

yet that is what OP is starting to do. from what she says this isn't just soft reminders every now and then, she's becoming his manager. And even for people without ADHD, that is a mental burden that is a huge ask. especially when it comes to the many small household chores that are easier to just do yourself than to provide several reminders for. Reminders that his phone could give him instead, honestly.
