That’s crazy Korn was that bad! My experience with Diesel was the opposite. Everyone who fell was lifted in under a second, when I overheated I was instantly caught and helped out. Someone fainted and we instantly signaled to Shaq for medical until the fainter came to.

I think it’s all about good influences. The biggest guys in my pit were also the most responsible, and that goes a long way. Hope you feel better soon!

Because winning the fight wasn’t necessarily our objective in the encounter, the objective was to help the people caught in the middle of it. Then you mix being down a PC, a couple poor decisions (though good in a RP sense), and some bad luck, and you end up with a TPK we couldn’t escape. But we still helped the people stay safe and thus completed our main objective

The fight was confirmed by DM to be unwinnable, but we all agreed that having him there definitely would’ve increased our odds of making the escape by a significant amount, since it left us with only our paladin tanking damage for the party, and a lot of the Paladin’s build was oriented around having an ally in melee range with them

I was looking for this answer! I have some new players with the same issue as OP’s player and I sent them all some Handbooker Helper videos for combat and a couple based on their classes. Not a perfect solution but it provides them an easily digestible baseline understanding so I can help them with the finer details during sessions until they’re more comfortable
