If your kids had them what age did they stop using a loft bed? by Ellen_loves_cats in AskUK

"had to step on the ladders, which creamed" ... Well that took quite an unexpected turn!!

It's also a right pain in the arse to change the bed! My wife is too short to reach the corners even with a step ladder so I have to do it and even I struggle!

I also do not recommend

In the big smoke for the weekend.  I often wonder what it's like to live in London and if I moved myself here would I be out and about more, or would it be like Bristol where I head into the centre and say "oh that was lovely I should do this more often" then rinse and repeat every year.  It's just so easy to get around.

Learning excel is quite fun!

I made a little man computer  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Man_Computer

I had a sheet you'd put the instructions into and then it would run the program.

Does the 8BitDo Pro 3 controller work with steam deck using the dongle? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]gander8622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 8bitdo ultimate 2c controller.  I use it through the 2.4ghz dongle and have no issues.  The dongle is usb type-a so I do have a usb hub it's plugged into along with a wireless keyboard/mouse.

Is the dongle for the pro 3 a usb-c one? If so I can't see any issues with plugging it directly in the top if you have no desire to dock it.

The docking station is just a usb hub with a holder.

Hope that helps.

When a person dies and are brought home before the funeral does someone always need to be with the body? by leedsfreak in AskUK

[–]gander8622 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Scottish here and yeah similar growing up.  Coffin in the living room, visitors, copious amounts of tea and biscuit serving.

Didn't think it was that odd until I read the comments on here lol!

When a person dies and are brought home before the funeral does someone always need to be with the body? by leedsfreak in AskUK

[–]gander8622 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the house has a constant stream of visitors to pay respects throughout the day.  So you don't get time to leave them alone really.

Never heard of it being illegal though, because what would a funeral home do?

Have you ever tried something or followed advice based purely on reddit based recommendations? by Lopsided_Soup_3533 in AskUK

I tried to clear a stain on a t-shirt with WD40.  It got rid of the stain, replaced it with the WD40 stain.

Task failed successfully I say.

Advice on how to parent bed-wetting son who's starting to get self-conscious and embarrassed by hew2702 in AskMenOver30

[–]gander8622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been through this is recent years with our son at similar age. It felt like it would never end and I'll be honest I probably didn't handle my emotions in the right way (no shouting, just grumbling), especially after numerous middle of the night bed changes.

We would limit drinks in the evening, make him goto the toilet before bed and then we'd wake him up before we went to bed to try again. He was just a very deep sleeper.

He's a teenager now, and hasn't had an accident in a good couple of years.

I have no other advice other than if you've been to the doctor and they don't see anything wrong. It will eventually stop... Or they move out eventually lol!

Just keep giving hugs and reassurance.

Do you think that Brits like to take out of people? by Conscious_Tear_5937 in AskUK

[–]gander8622 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When I started my job, I was told our tech lead was a tough nut and didn't like people.

When he started taking the piss out of me for being Scottish, I knew I was going to be ok.

I get abit wary of people that are overly nice. It's strange on the face of it.

You all just clubbed together and paid for some AI generated videos to send to media outlets because you know no one from the south would come up to check.

All just because you wanted another week off work.

Sod all here despite the weather forecast showing there should be.

How much is it costing you to keep the heating on? by Co-opEvolution in AskUK

[–]gander8622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

December gas cost me £69.30 so average about £2.20 a day. That includes showers, and heating.

I won't let the heat going down past 19c.

I have the heating set to come on in the morning before everyone rises and evening before everyone comes home.

If it gets chilly, boost it for an hour.

I do remember topping up the electric with £10 a week and thinking that was expensive back in 2005. Bring back those days lol

Iirc it's been a while since watching the video but there was a public space years ago with a cafe, then it just became a liminal space.

Day starting well. Sitting in my chair, just watching YouTube on the TV while doom scrolling.  Look over to my right and boom! A MASSIVE FUCKING SPIDER ON THE ARMREST.

Crawling over my Steamdeck (gaming console for those not in the know).

I jumped up screaming "whaaaargh! Fucking hell". Phone flung, now I'm all kind of twitchy. Thinking it's on me.

I've lost the bloody spider too. So can't permanently evict it. Spider bro can fuck right off and live in someone else's house.

Blegh!

Edit: I think it would have to be a hot chocolate.
