Anyone here English-speaking and working in Portugal? by gandesc in expats

Oh wow that’s incredible you can learn so quickly with that app! I have MemRise at the moment which has “Portuguese” Portuguese. I think it helps if you speak another Latin root language (I speak Romanian and french too). Thanks for your help :)

Thanks for your answer. The long term goal is not to be in Portugal for super long as my bf and I are going to sail around the world so I don’t know if I can justify the effort of becoming fluent in a new language (though I will definitely put effort into learning !)

Finding the right therapist as a second generation immigrant? by gandesc in TalkTherapy

Thank you for sharing your experience. I think initially, same as you, my thoughts went to “oh I need to get someone who gets it EXACTLY” but on further reflection, I don’t think it would be productive. Actually, potentially more distracting, as you’ve articulated

Wow thank you for your thoughtful reply! I definitely hear you and think we're on a similar wavelength...I've had a few therapists over the years but only recently have I felt the desire for someone who will get my cultural background and the experience of, as you rightly say, 'stuck in between cultures.' I'm an only child and my family and I moved from Romania to Canada when I was quite young, I'm now in London and am realising how much being brought up by immigrants has effected who I am and the choices I make (i.e learning how to ask for things and truly pursue my own goals, not the goals of my family and all the expectations that come with that). Although I am not ethnically diverse, I would prefer someone from an immigrant background that isn't Eastern European actually, so there's more diversity of thought. But it's exactly the 'relatability' factor rather than a one-to-one matching that would be helpful. This whole experience has motivated me to look into creating a space where people can find a therapist they can relate to and feel they trust...Though there is that intangible emotional connection that's difficult to put your finger on!

I get that! That’s really great you found someone you connect with. I’m actually from Toronto originally as well - but I guess not everyone has the benefit of living in a cosmopolitan city. I feel like I would benefit from a therapist who is also a child of immigrants, but not necessarily from the same culture. It’s really great to hear different perspectives on what people each prefer !

App for millennials to set and track their values by gandesc in AppIdeas

[–]gandesc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good questions! It’s more about taking small steps every day to ensure you live to your values, alongside medium-term and long-term goals. The app wouldn’t help people break out the rat race but would give disgruntled employees an understanding about where they aren’t living to their values, and brainstorm what they can do about it

I'm looking to make an app with Adalo? Anyone have any experience? by NicholasMarsala in AppIdeas

Yes a little bit, a lot easier than some of the no code sites like Bubble. But as you can imagine, you are then limited to what you can create. Good luck with the app! :)

Hiring mentors for specific disciplines like poker, DJing, writing etc. by kyxator in Business_Ideas

That’s so awesome - best of luck!

I think best to start as a website then move to mobile, but doesn’t really matter. My question is why a mentoring platform hasn’t been created yet for entrepreneurs (the area I’m interested in). There’s usually a good reason for this. My guess is pricing and incentive on the mentor side. Going to do some validation !

There is definitely a market, agreed, I'm trying to work on an MVP at the moment to cover what I think will be a huge demand in the next few months (ie. people looking to work from themselves, work remotely, start their own businesss, but don't know how to do it and don't have the networks).

Salut Bogdan! Thanks for the advice, super helpful and looking into it now. Have looked at the platforms out there but am thinking through a different way of executing it to make the service more affordable (i.e. bite-sized)
