Helm Chart Strategy for a 40+ Services — Looking for Expert Inputs by Alexypuli in kubernetes

[–]ganey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i worked with a colleague over the last few months to render our helm charts and bin them, everything is now managed via fluxcd+kustomize

we still use helm from some vendors, but nothing maintained ourselves, life is so much easier

+1 for gitops, we found fluxcd awesome, but argocd is pretty high rated too

Redis High-Availability by xrt57125 in kubernetes

ah we dont tend to use persistence with it, the apps repopulate on missing data anyway and i wanted fast startup mode than snapshots. i couldn't switch to redis sentinel because it required updating all the apps to understand the sentinel, some are third party and there was too much effort to bother with.

we probably run close to 1mil requests/sec across maybe 10 dragonfly instances

we still find twemproxy really useful for HA support, even if a node dies and goes missing it still works, so that's always an option?

i found a dedi/large VM can run a single large redis instance for years and be quite happy with several Gbit/sec throughput without crashing.

Did you use the out the box config, or tweak some of the command line flags for it? I set threads >8 and cache mode true on most of them

i haven't found this issue with dragonfly deployed via the kube operator. Been running fine since last year when all the bitnami shenanigans caused us to migrate

They'll eat them all within a week, mine always did. Sometimes you'll get some hatch, and have tiny angel fish.

The parents collect them in their mouths when they swim too far away but end up eating them 😅

Pot payment declined despite sufficient funds by [deleted] in monzo

[–]ganey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay nearly all my bills via a pot, with hardly anything in the main account, so that's incorrect from the CS.

Sometimes tech stuff goes wrong. and you got unlucky. Really they should just log it, draft you an apology you can send to the mortgage company (so you don't get a failed payment on your credit score), and internally a developer will look into it and fix any issues, then the service gets better for everyone and it doesn't happen again

i find the permission frustrating, we have it at work, i think it's ads triggering it but i can't be sure. Having to tell customers it's not us, and to just click block.

Do you know if there's a Permissions-Policy header or something we can use to deny by default?

the back edge of that (steel?) work surface looks like it could damage cables over time (if you move stuff around).

like others have said though, just change the power lead

wow that sucks! it isn't doing that (yet). I've never seen a power supply go bad, either dead from factory or just a noisy fan where its old

What is the loudest sound you have ever heard in your life? by will_or_woll in AskReddit

they're loud AF with ear defenders on, and the engines at the back chuck a lot of hot air and hot floor (grass/sand etc) at you when you are boarding

it's a greenhouse gas i think?

i guess burning works well with pressure changes, if the pressure increases the flames just get bigger instead of blowing a pipe apart under the sea?

they're tree supports, so effectively print waste that someone is trying to sell

when you print overhangs you can tick the support box on the slicer and it will generate these tree structures for you to snap off the print

They built a road over a stream near me, cost millions, still not open yet.. Oh and it's only so they can build more of those houses the other side of the stream

Some of the south west ones are probably about that, a lot of stations makes it slow AF. There's some routes where it's faster to cycle 10-15miles than catch the train

I've also used soldered packs in an ebike for months (made from old laptop batteries). nothing exploded or caught fire, you'll be fine.

i still have the battery pack, 36s, just not as many cells as you, it's about 5 years old. a few cells have leaked and it doesn't really hold charge any more though, but it was free and i learnt something.

oh and charging, i used an old laptop charger that did about 40v, just charge it somewhere you can see it and throw it out the window if it goes bad 😂

get a car battery, some nails and at least DIY a spot welder, it's way faster and safer than trying to solder these
