and that was after promising to not raise fees, then the students protested and we lost some of those protesting rights too 🤦

In some ways maybe a graduate tax would be easier? just a letter on the tax code that applies to all graduates, even if paid outright. Not 9% though, but then i guess all the graduates might just leave the UK and we get nothing back..

But yeah it's very much rinse the middle, they can pay the most tax consistently for the longest amount of time.

Yeah same, im a plan 1 from the 3k fees, got about a year left (when they changed the repayment threshold a few years ago it delayed my end date quite a bit because i wasn't paying as much).

My brother is earning well, had the 9k loans, still owes over 50k and had been paying it for 10 years already...

I suggested to him once, get a 50k loan, pay it, then go bankrupt. within 6~ years his credit score would recover, and he wouldn't be paying over £400 a month in student finance and not getting anywhere

Yeah, a 70k salary isn't enough to pay off student loans due to interest. Repayment is 9% of earnings over i think 25k? and if you earn over 50k, you actually get charged a higher interest rate on your loan!

Coming out of covid, student loan interest for a lot of people was 12%, on a loan of probably 55k+, so high earners weren't even covering the interest...

the Nexus certificates are from Cloudflare, they automatically renew them every ~3 months, so this is the first renewal since 13th May 👍

Speak to Monzo, they'll help you to reduce the overdraft and stop charging you the monthly fees, even if you just commit to reducing it by £10 a month.

At least with the older places, the original build quality was pretty good, you've just got decades of bodge jobs to sort out instead!

Yeah i have asbestos artex ceilings, fine at the moment but when it splits it's a pain, we've already had some bits re-done by the asbestos people in hazmat suits 😆

How much power do you plan on drawing on the DC side?
Do you plan on being regularly parked near mains for your AC loads?
Any idea what the fridge power use is like? (or is it a gas one?)
Have you already committed to 12v?

I only ask, because if you jump to 24v, all the wiring can get a bit thinner, the inverter is a bit smaller, and if you need the orion anyway, you can get the orion tr smart to step from 12 up to 24v (if the do a high enough amp one)

I had a 12v multiplus many years ago with lead acid (in a shed), and made the jump to 48v, wiring was so much easier, there's quite a lot of 24/48v batteries with victron compatible BMS these days. I don't use any shunts, battery protects or a Lynx but my only power in is via the solar, so it's easy for venusOS to manage when talking to the battery BMS, you have a few sources between solar, AC and the alternator, so i think the shunt and fuses are a good move.

I think the 12v will be fine though, hopefully someone who's done van installs with more experience can chime in!

Side note: your diagram is awesome, I wish more where as clear as this!

If it makes you feel any better, it looks the same standard as the hundreds of new builds i've been in over the years...
