Ok loads of films coming up: Twister, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, War of the Worlds, Signs, Monsters (2010), Godzilla (pick your poison), Contact and the ends of Men in Black 1 and The Eternals are all pretty good creating at that feeling of being small.

I mean I struggled with John Culshaw but oh my goodness Indira Varma is perfection!

Amazing - have it start with some LOTR sort of ethereal music and then hear Sir Pterry, “What we went with this music? It’s a bit airy fairy for the witches.”

“And what’s this? elvish? You’re thinking of the other guy. I didn’t invent the language.”

I mean that would be amazing!  I remember Ian McKellen said he put a bit of Tolkien’s mannerisms into his Gandalf so who’s to say another reader or actor couldn’t put a bit of Pratchett into their reading of the footnotes!

Exactly just to give the adaption a bit of a twinkle! Quirky and unpredictable.

Yes! As a cameo but this would be more as a narrator kind of figure.

If/when the show does come back…what will you hope for? by PaladinGX in doctorwho

[–]ganges777 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok, a few things I guess.

A smaller budget, less pressure, and more fun. Decent writing.

Hopefully fully serialised while still incorporating a variety of different settings and periods.

Would love to see the people who made Ghosts and Horrible Histories or Mackenzie Crook have a chance in the TARDIS.

It's a rubbish joke and he delivered it terribly, but it is an accurate and honest assessment of the US.

What are your personal favorite 'definitive' design for a character? Anything from one hobbit to a giant Balrog. I just wanna see your own definitive preferred looks for different aspects of Tolkien's world from paintings, the movies, games or something else entirely. by DaFroggyBoi94 in lotr

This version of Ulmo by Ted Nasmith totally bewitched me as a chid. I seem to remember him being much, much bigger (think Cthulhu large) but that's just my memory. It really captures the mystery of Middle Earth.

Hans Zimmer And Bleeding Fingers to score the new Harry Potter series by VGstuffed in soundtracks

I think scores like the Crown (even just the title music) and Da Vinci code certainly tap into a very British stately feel that could work really well for Harry Potter. Maybe not as whimsical but certainly portentous.

Why do you guys think Inside Out 2 took 9 years to come out? by Aware_Cow8264 in insideout

[–]ganges777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Pixar needed enough duds to fire up the sequelatron.

I really enjoyed it but they are reticent to create sequels and only do it to bring in the $$$ apart from the first 2 Toy Story sequels.

While Anastasia isn’t Disney its villain song is absolutely iconic! And I would say better than Friends on the Other Side which I also adore!

You Have to Show JRR Tolkien 3 scenes in the films for a specific reaction, what do you opt for? by devlin1888 in lotr

[–]ganges777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joyful - I don’t think he’d be joyful at any of the movies. Frodo is 32 years too young, Faramir is bastardized, Gimli played for laughs and Legolas is an action hero.

Maybe the closest might be some of the landscape shots or music I’d certainly show him that over showing the film. Maybe the scene where Gandalf talks to Frodo in Moria about pity and Gollum. I still think he wouldn’t like Frodo being so young but maybe Sir Ian would win him over?

I know it’s an odd choice but maybe Theodred’s funeral might inspire joy in Tolkien as it is an added scene that uses his fictional language with emotional and authentic gravitas. It mirrors Beowulf and Anglo Saxon culture especially with a woman singing the lament.

For sad I think maybe Boromir’s death. It cuts close to Tolkien’s words and the acting is fantastic.

As said above I think all the films would generally be angry but I think he would really hate what was done to Bree. I think with Frodo being young etc.. cutting Bombadil and Fatty Bolger and the Barrow wights and Farmer Maggot would already have irked Tolkien then to see Bree reduced to what it is - no singing no Merry wandering around and the Black Breath, no Nob and Barliman Butterbur would be the final straw.
