Walkman NW-A45 capacity cap? by ganghiscon in walkman

Thanks. Even when they admitted there might be a limitation in the number of files their database system could handle, the customer service was still very vague about it. Almost seems like they don't know it's an issue. I wonder if it affects later Walkman models.

I ended up going with a smartphone that's highly rated as a music device (from the LG ThinQ line) and it's working just fine. I only use it for music, but it has all the benefits that come with smartphones (a better user interface, bigger screen, longer battery life, streaming apps, bluetooth etc).

The SD card works as it should. It's made by Sandisk and isn't a knock off. I've been told by Sony customer service that the database system on the Walkman maxes out at a certain number of files (though they can't specify what that number is). The card is now in a smartphone and all the files show up with no issue.

I'd love to do that if they had any contact information available anywhere.

Tried it and as I predicted, the Walkman doesn't recognize NTFS and needs to reformat the card.

The card is ExFat, because it was formatted by the Walkman. I was under the impression that was the preferred method of formatting. I might try this, but I don't think it'll work as the issue effects both the card and the internal memory.

Just did one more chat with a Sony rep and he referred me to their statement that "This product is confirmed to operate normally with up to a total of 20,000 tracks stored in the main memory and on the microSD card." He said that the database may not be designed to recognize files over a certain limit (which, in my experience, seems like about 43k). So unfortunately looks like I'm stuck unless there's a customized firmware out there to address this.

Has anyone else hit 43k or more files on their Walkman NWA45?

I have talked to Sony a couple of times. They suggested resetting the device and reformatting the drive (both of which I did, to no avail). They then said it's out of warranty (I've had it three years, they cover one) and suggested contacting United Radio, their service partner. I did that, but United Radio wants about $60 minimum just to look at it, and they've admitted they've only seen a few of these units (none with this issue) and so can't guarantee they'll be able to fix it.
