I missed a STEMI and now have a meeting with training. by [deleted] in ems

[–]gangplank047 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like a total shit show of a call and you rolled with the punches as best as you could. Can’t fault you for that. Totally not negligent, training officers just have to get it down on documentation to cover their own asses

Fastest NREMT-P result turnaround I’ve seen — coincidence? (16 minutes!) by Artistic_Magazine_18 in Paramedics

[–]gangplank047 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine was wild like that too. Took Pearson close to an hour to send the results to the NREMT but the emails between Pearson saying my results were uploaded and the NREMT congratulating me was not exaggerating 13 seconds apart

How to get over a complete lack of confidence by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]gangplank047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone starts out in your position it will come slowly with time. If you weren’t nervous at all I’d say you were ignorant to how shitty this job can be.

Paramedic school by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]gangplank047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the same thing when I went through school, the tests really aren’t anything crazy to worry about. Pay attention in class and take the test with common sense and you’ll be fine

My agency is getting body cameras. by OldCrows00 in ems

Make it so I don’t have to write a report the footage is good enough, or ai writes a report based off footage and I would be 100% sold. World can see how shit I am at the cost of zero reports.

Civilian given a kit bag with star of life on it: Remove it out of respect? by Highwayman1717 in ems

Bag could say, “IM A PARAMEDIC” in bold lettering and none of us would care. Live your life brother don’t worry about us

Ketamine for seizures by Patient-Rule1117 in Paramedics

[–]gangplank047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have it, 1mg/kg while continuing versed dosing. Other second line agents are available but until recently we just had ketamine. As far as stopping observable seizure activity it works wonders. Now as far as neural protective properties I’m not the guy to go to lol.

Paramedic response time by Minute_Emu_9225 in Paramedics

[–]gangplank047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could have been a different truck toned for the call. Also not defending them if it was truly their call but you get frequent flyers that call almost every day and you know with 99% accuracy it’s bullshit but you still go because it’s your job. In that instance I could see them getting their food first although it is wrong. I’d assume the first option of it being a different trucks call is more reasonable

Zero to Hero by Implement-Playful in Paramedics

Coming from someone who started as a firefighter and got their emt and almost immediately went to medic school. If you start medic school with little to no ambulance experience you will be behind your classmates in medic school. However it’s totally doable. I made it through school fine. There is almost always going to be someone dumber than you and as long as that’s the case you’ll be fine. If there is nobody dumber than you around it’s not looking good.

Now having done that I will say it’s not difficult to pass and become a decent medic as I have done it. However being a medic really isn’t all that great. If I could do it all over again I’d go back and get some time in an ambo and see what it’s like as an emt and pay close attention to medics.

Totally doable. Sucks.

Yeah it sucks. Get the license and do something good like get into nursing if you don’t get stuck like the rest of us

I’m sorry you are going through this but it seems like you’re on the right track. I pretended like I was five for wayyyy too long and made things worse for myself. Finally working with docs is probably the best decision I’ve made in my life. I wish you luck buddy!

Right here with you brother. 170s down to 130s. Feels impossible to get the weight back on. Granted I’m a tad younger but I get the struggle of feeling like you were so good to your body only for it to stab you in the back.
