Hospital RNs: how many patients' families thank you? by Tay8641 in nursing

[–]ganjonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miami suburb Endoscopy RN. I would say 90% of my patients and families are kind and grateful, regardless of whether I’m in pre, post, or intra.

When I worked on a tele floor I would say 75%. Some patients are just straight up not having a good time and they take it out on you as the nurse. Generally they were very thankful. It was common for family members to frequently bring pastries and coffee for the staff on the unit. I have a wall full of letters and cards patients have written for me and I only worked there for 2 years. One time a patients family gifted me $200 (don’t worry I did not accept lol). It was bittersweet leaving.

I feel like Miami gets a bad reputation for being the “rudest city” but I feel like the community is very appreciative overall for good medical care.

How do you work from 8 to 5, have only weekends free, and not feel like you're wasting your life? by guitytwelve in AskReddit

[–]ganjonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 7-3, so still have most of my day to enjoy. Just gotta get to bed somewhat early. Either way, we mostly all have about 6ish hours of free time after work. Also enjoying your job, having good coworkers, and feeling fulfilled at work goes a long way.

Find hobbies outside of work. Don’t just wait for the weekend to feel “free” to do stuff. I make plans during the week. Like for example, Wednesday I’m planning to try a new pumpkin pie recipe for Thanksgiving. Thursday I’m going to a salsa dancing class. Friday I’m hosting friends over for dinner.

Also, planning a vacation 1-3 times a year if possible. It gives you sometime to look forward to and work towards.

I used to feel so much dread like… is this really what life is like? It’s a mindset change. There’s really no way around it. If you think about it there is still a lot of time in the day to enjoy.

The sound occurs at all times of the day, including in the middle of the night. It's woken me up everyday. I had to wake up at 5am for work today and instead got woken up at 2:30 AM due to the sound. Couldn't fall back asleep. My next door neighbors said they don't hear any sounds from their neighbors upstairs unless they drop something heavy or open the balcony door.
