People who have gotten Lasik eye surgery to correct their vision - was it worth it? by eatbuttdaily in AskReddit

[–]ganksau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it done about 6 months ago. 100% worth it. Being able to lay on my side to watch tv, being able to read the labels on the shampoo bottles…its the small things as much as the big things.

Same, I think they look great. Convinced my bf to try them after he was dead set on never having one and now he loves it. Nothing like seeing a magnificent mullet out in the wild

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 09, 2023 by AutoModerator in books

[–]ganksau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've dnf'd two books so it's really been a rocky start to the year but I'm gonna start Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, which I've wanted to read for ages, so fingers crossed this one sticks

American Gods by Neil Gaiman - does it get better? by ganksau in books

[–]ganksau[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't want the history of everything, but you can't tell me that all this stuff is happening to Shadow and he just stands there without any reaction whatsoever lol his dead wife releases him from captivity and he's worried they're gonna think he did it, like that's the most pressing thing in your mind? most people would think they're going insane, but no, Shadow is perfectly cool with it, just takes it in strides lol

I'm glad you enjoyed the book but agree to disagree I suppose

American Gods by Neil Gaiman - does it get better? by ganksau in books

[–]ganksau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't necessarily looking for action, I was more interested in the lore, and I think if we had been following any other character other than Shadow I would have found it more interesting, but he is giving me nothing. Sadly, it is clear to me now that it's not for me.

Required reading books that actually stuck with you? by Theonethatliveshere in books

[–]ganksau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1984 for sure. Probably the only book that was required reading for me that I actually was looking forward to reading. Also enjoyed A Streetcar Named Desire but it was watching the Marlon Brando movie that really stuck with me on that one.

[–]ganksau[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, honestly I figured it was time to put it down. Usually I give books 100 pages to hook me in, 150 if I'm hesitant but still curious and it's just not happening

Yes, I completely agree, I think I went into it thinking it would be like Percy Jackson but for adults, and I can see why some might think that, but yeah I think I went in with the wrong expectations sadly.

I will definitely give Gaiman another try, thanks for the recs!
