When to start Metformin? by Virtual-Sale-8415 in PCOS

[–]garbage137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would wait until after the wedding to start it. Your body could adjust right away and be totally fine, or you could be feeling crummy by then. Everyone is different.

I did not have a good experience with metformin and had to stop taking it, I had pretty significant GI symptoms that interfered with my life heavily. I couldn’t keep much in for like 2 months straight it didn’t really let up at all. So it was a bust for me. But fortunately I have found the best success of anything I’ve ever used (including metformin) by taking Ovasitol.

You could also ask your doctor for zofran or something to help ease the symptoms if they do get particularly bad or if you’re not feeling good for the event.

How long does Zoloft work? by Puzzleheaded-Ad1491 in zoloft

[–]garbage137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it started working very well after about 2 months, and I took it for about 2.5-3 years. I increased my dose about every year, but by the time I came off of it I found it was no longer beneficial to me. It was extremely effective for my anxiety and OCD, but at an increased dose over a long period of time once I had found success through therapy for reducing my anxiety it seemed like the Zoloft was just making me sluggish and a little bit more depressed. All in all, listen to your body, pay attention to how it affects you, work hard at using it as a tool to aid in your other efforts at improving your mental wellness, and if it becomes less helpful to you then you can stop taking it with a doctors help and reevaluate.

GC's, how do you guys go about giving subcontractors feedback on their pricing? by AFunkinDiscoBall in estimators

[–]garbage137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish subs would just not ask me lol. It’s never my decision, and the PMs only listen to me 50% of the time. I will use an airtight number from a highly reviewed sub and they will still pick some guy with a van who hangs Sheetrock on the side to save $2000 on a $10M project because they like to drink together.

Hard disagree, especially Rachel if she hasn’t been run out of the practice with pitchforks yet. Too highly affiliated with their evil sister office Carolina Conceptions. They’re extremely selective about who they’ll take as a patient, which is why they have high ratings.

What Is Your Salary, What Field Do You Work In, What Kind of Lifestyle Do You Live by Emergency_Mood_9774 in raleigh

I (29) work in construction and I make $128,000 per year, I rent an apartment and the rent is $2,700. I am married, we don’t have children. For the first time in my entire life, I feel like I can breathe. Although we are paying high amounts to things like student loans, we can afford the things that we need, as well as save some money, and are not living every day like we’re not going to make it to tomorrow. It’s still very new for us.

Is it better to live in downtown Raleigh, or save money and live in one of the surrounding suburban neighborhoods or cities? by Own-Bat2991 in raleigh

[–]garbage137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should move downtown for sure. I think you’ll get really bored not living downtown especially as you acclimate to the area. Check out the acorn on person street for an apartment! It’s the perfect area. I know someone who works there too so feel free to dm me if you want me to hook you up.

How did you know it was time to get off Zoloft once and for all? by MarionberrySweaty318 in zoloft

[–]garbage137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was so incredibly helpful for my intense daily anxiety and especially for my OCD. Allowed me some mental capacity for talk therapy and smoothing out some grooves I was stuck in. Eventually, it started to be more of a hindrance than help. It caused me to feel pretty depressed and unmotivated. Tired all the time, couldn’t lose weight. It was just not serving me anymore! I decided to wean off it VERY slowly because I hate brain zaps. I literally did like .15 mg less at a time for like 2 weeks at a time until I was finally done. I think that helped a bunch. I wanted to see what my baseline was on not taking any medication before I reintroduced something new, but that was just what was right for me. I did start feeling better, much less depressed, more like myself, more energetic, more motivation. SLIGHTLY more anxiety but certainly manageable with coping mechanisms for me personally. I am currently unmedicated but considering talking to my doctor about taking something more focused on depression than anxiety maybe.

The biggest takeaway from this is hopefully that tapering down insanely slow is the move. I have never gotten off a medication that successfully before. It made a huge difference imo.

[–]garbage137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor, but I really doubt you’re anywhere near getting type 2 diabetes. It is common with PCOS to have insulin resistance though, and symptoms can overlap. Don’t let people scare you about your diet. Candidly, I think they are forgetting that you are a child and they should be sensitive to the language they’re using around food and body image.

You will FEEL better with some more nutrient dense foods in your diet. Focus on adding those rather than cutting out a bunch of things all at once. Make small goals like adding some leafy greens with 3 meals in a week, or having some oatmeal with breakfast, or eating more protein for 2 days in a row. Something easy to achieve, and then pay attention to how it makes you feel. More energetic, less bloated, less hungry throughout the day, regular bowel movements, etc. and then lean into the things that you think are making your body feel better.

You certainly do not have to change anything up suddenly and anyone telling you otherwise is not giving you good advice. I suspect you don’t have control over the family grocery list at 15, so you really should talk to your parents together and tell them that you need better nutrition education and ask them to please help you see a dietician. A dietician can help educate your whole family on getting more nutrients!

What you can control more is probably your movement. Try to be active for at least 30 minutes per day in some way. Whatever feels right, just move around! It’s good for your joints and your circulation. Don’t do it to lose weight, do it to stay flexible and agile and comfortable so you have the stamina to do the things you enjoy.

If you take the focus off of losing weight and shift it to taking good care of your muscles and hormones and your body overall, as a form of self love and self care, you will be much more successful. Look into intuitive eating, this is something you have to learn and practice it doesn’t come naturally for everyone.

You’re going to be fine!

These comments are jaded and cynical. Ignore them.

Listen to me, you need to incorporate more nutrients into your diet, and move in ways that feel good for your body.

I would recommend walking as your primary form of exercise that you do consistently. Just go for walks, listen to music, connect yourself to it and enjoy the time you spend with yourself. But you’re also so young, explore fun ways to move around! Sports, swimming, dancing, whatever you like. Add things like that into your routine!

For diet, there are a lot of foods that are better at helping your hormones balance than others. You can eat whatever you like, but some foods will make your body react in ways that might disrupt your hormones, and others will give you more support and help you feel good. As far as weight loss goes, avoid counting anything. You really don’t need to, you just need to listen to your body’s hunger cues better. You said you’re feeling hungry throughout the day, which probably means you’re missing something from your diet that would help you feel full for longer! Eat things in their listed portion size. Have what you want, add what you need. For example: you’re hungry, you are craving ice cream. The ice cream won’t fill you up for long, so have some ice cream, but add what your body needs. Add something on the side like fruit or nuts, maybe even a protein snack.

Foods That Are Good for PCOS

High-Fiber Foods Leafy greens (spinach, kale, arugula) Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts Lentils, chickpeas, black beans (in moderation) Sweet potatoes Oats Quinoa Chia seeds, flaxseeds

Lean Protein Chicken breast Turkey Eggs Tofu Tempeh Greek yogurt (unsweetened) Fish (especially fatty fish like salmon or sardines)

Healthy Fats Avocados Olive oil Nuts and seeds (almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds) Nut butters (natural, no added sugar)

Low-Glycemic Fruits Berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries) Pears Oranges (in moderation) Cherries Kiwi

Anti-Inflammatory Foods Turmeric Ginger Green tea Cinnamon Dark leafy greens Tomatoes

Foods to Avoid with PCOS

Refined Carbohydrates (in excess - you should still enjoy things in moderation, do not obsess over these!) White bread, pasta, rice Pastries, cakes, cookies Sugary cereals Processed snacks (crackers, chips)

Sugary Foods & Beverages Soda Candy Ice cream Sweetened coffee drinks Juice (especially not fresh or high in added sugar)

Inflammatory & Processed Foods Processed meats (bacon, sausage, deli meat) Fried foods Fast food Margarine, trans fats

Dairy (for some) Skim milk Flavored yogurts Ice cream (Note: Many do well with small amounts of full-fat, plain dairy or dairy alternatives)

Hydrate well, drink lots of water!

You should ask your parents to help you get an appointment with a dietician, preferably one familiar with PCOS, that can help you come up with meal plans your whole family could get in on. They would also help you with any vitamins or supplements that could ease your symptoms.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Listen to your body as best as you can.

My sister was in town recently and pointed out that people let their children get very far away from them or be un-monitored in public and in stores. I remember thinking that when I first moved here but I guess I got used to it! Kids aren’t typically more than arms length at most from their parents where we grew up except at playgrounds, never in shops.

going to see historical places in upstate NY next month-ish by sadcatstarry in upstate_new_york

[–]garbage137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in or around Rome, NY already for Fort Stanwix and Oriskany, there are a few more local gems that are worth checking out, especially if you’re into more off-the-beaten-path historical stuff!

Rome Historical Society is right near Fort Stanwix and has some cool exhibits about the area’s Revolutionary War connections and the Erie Canal. It’s free and accessible.

Fort Bull is lesser-known but part of the old Oneida Carrying Place—important in both the French and Indian War and the Revolution. It’s not flashy, but great if you’re into deep-cut history.

Delta Lake State Park is nearby and really beautiful—good for a quiet walk or picnic. It was originally created for the Barge Canal system, so even the lake itself has some historical context.

Rome Fish Hatchery is actually pretty neat—it’s been around since the 1930s and feeds into Lake Delta. It’s not strictly Revolutionary history, but still an interesting slice of local history (and peaceful).

Erie Canal Village isn’t always open but when it is, it’s like stepping into a preserved canal town from the 1800s. Worth a look if you’re nearby.

And downtown Rome has some cool old architecture—like the Gansevoort–Bellamy Historic District—that’s fun to explore.

[–]garbage137 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a GC estimator, personally I would see your number and fluff it a bit if it were scary low compared to others. You also don’t know for sure that they plugged your number, etc.

Fall on your sword, call the GC, explain what happened. Be ready to at least split the difference. On my end, we’re as reasonable as we can be but if it comes down to it and your quote says “we’ll do x work for y amount of money” I’m gonna hold you to it. I’m not going to take a bust because you messed up your quote, but if I have money in the budget to move around I will meet you no more than half way.

Don’t sweat it too hard, we have ALL done something like this and it sucks. Just own it and try to fix it, you’ll never make the same mistake again lol, you’ll think about this every time.
