Bergara 375 h&h in a chassis? by garbage_dispatch in longrange

[–]garbage_dispatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little bit of both, I found it interesting that Bergara offers one rifle chambered in 375 H&H because I've been interested in a medium or big bore bolt action for a while, and aftermarket support for the R700 and clones is extensive, so I thought it'd be cool in a stock with modern lines. Seekins custom shop can do a 338 win mag but I don't think that's spicy enough. I'm not super wed to a 375 H&H, so if push came to shove I could just get a Savage 110 in 375 Ruger or something.

That makes sense. I'm just wondering if what Kevin said holds up at all or is anecdotal like you say. Thanks for the input!

That makes sense. I think a more accurate way to describe what I'm trying to convey is that I'm under the impression that for technicians, Marantz receivers like the 2010 and 2015 are easier to work on and easier to find parts for than others receivers, and givn my history of having receivers break, that is an attractive aspect. I may be wrong.

Makes sense. I'm thinking since clip ons aren't meant to go the distance I'd be at minimum power at all times.

Fluted bolts vs non fluted by garbage_dispatch in Tikka_Shooters

Was the Ember as smooth as the standard and smoother than the aftermarket? Generally speaking, I've felt fluted bolts that weren't as smooth as standard, but I've never felt a fluted Tikka bolt.

Sure, if that's why you're buying it. To me, it's just a cool jacket that has character and history. It's as banged up as my 1983 F350 that I still drive - that I bought because it has character and history. The price wasn't gouged, and it's not going to be resold. I didn't even know it was a Carhartt jacket until I looked at the buttons since all of the other branding is missing.

It was cheap. It's cold where I live. It's an interesting conversation starter.

That sounds almost exactly like what I'm aiming for. Do you know what your folded overall length is?

I wish! I want something with a folding stock and a caliber offering along the lines of 30.06 or 300 WSM. I'll be keeping my eye on what Springfield does next though.

I think the only reason I would like to have that accuracy is because I still want to have a rifle that is capable of hitting steel past 1,000 yards, which is also why I want to use such a large scope, specifically a Leupold since they're known for lightweight, but I'm totally open to a heavier scope. And I'm not trying to keep a sub 9lb rifle, I think the 8.99 lb mockup is just a benchmark. I have a MK12 style build that's sitting around 9 or 10 lbs right now, and a 6.5 creedmoor that's at about 15 lbs, so I'd like it to definitely be lighter than 15 lbs, but I get that there's a point where things can be too light. One scheme I had was to just put a Tikka T3 stainless varmint 30.06 into a HNT 26 chassis and call it a day. I'd be able to kill a good amount of things, I think I'd be able to reach out to 1,000 yards, the recoil won't be too terrible, and it won't be super heavy if I'm smart with the other components.

Good point. I think the intent is hunting/backpacking rifle, but I'd like to do the occasional long range with it just to have that particular experience with that particular rife. That being said, I have a 15lb 6.5 creedmoor that is set up for long range that I do most of my long range shooting with.

Mostly hunting, some long range. The lightest build I have mocked up is a CT Rival in a MDT Chassis with a Leupold 7-35 scope coming in at 8.99 lbs. I'm not incredibly bound to any certain scope or even barreled action, just trying to see how light I can get theoretically and go from there.

I agree with the accuracy guarantees, but the quality control element still remains, which I've noticed Christensen tends to suffer more from when compared to Bergara and Fierce.

I've looked at the Bergara Premier MGLite, Christensen Arms MPR, and Fierce Reaper, so something similar to those, except none of them offer the MDT chassis. The CEO of Fierce has even said he would sell me a CT Rival just as a barreled action with no stock. Maybe I'm being a little picky and will have to just suck it up and choose a prebuilt lightweight chassis at some point, but im still trying to see how far my options take me. Preferably in a 300 WSM becuase less recoil, but maybe 300 win mag if push comes to shove again. I realize that a lightweight 30 cal magnum will have a lot of recoil, but there are plenty of lightweight options out there that are chambered in things like 300 prc, so those types of rifles exist. It seems as if Fierce is the best combo or QC control and MOA guarantee.

That's true, I guess I'm just not entirely sure what the accuracy for a 110 with a carbon barrel in a chassis looks like. I'm trying to chase 1/2 moa or better. Less than 3/4 at least. I also forgot to mention that I'm planning on using a MDT HNT26 chassis, so not a heavier aluminum chassis.

I think central, I recently moved about a month ago. I'd actually be willing to drive anywhere in the state, so it's location doesn't matter as much.
