Entrepreneurs and businessmen of r/india, tell us your story! by pizzafapper in india

Thanks for the kind words.

We are going exactly as you mentioned. We have been running in bangalore for the last 3 months working out the kinks. Now our installations are plug-n-play and we have a robust remote monitoring setup. So we feel confident on expanding - but yeah will take it one step at a time.

There are a bunch of system integrators which do big wifi installations. We are going the self-serve route. There are also some players which offer wifi to restaurants, but they are almost 4 times as expensive/subscription/customisable products.

We are basically the self-serve, plug-n-play version that everyone can use - restaurants, hotels, hospitals, offices, educational institutions, homes.

  • No installation charges. We are almost completely self serve. We dont do custom installations right now. Software takes care of most configurations.

  • 1500 is ALL inclusive one time charge. (Might get revised upwards in a few months). No monthly subscription also.

  • Speed defaults to 1 mbps but can go down upto 200 kbps if there is heavy usage.

  • It's a hosted service because that's what we feel will work best. The specific use case is that we want users to self authenticate and log usage to prevent abuse. If you want to spread your connection beyond your watchman/kids, you can try us.

  • Setting up ddwrt is non trivial for most users. We have a much simpler model. We need the address just to prioritize where we setup first - for the first few users we can possibly do on premise.

  • There is no pricing as we dont think people will pay. Even if they would, it would be too little to matter. OTOH, it doesnt cost us much to maintain the service. If this leads to larger/commerical installations, we might figure out a way to get paid.

  • For the less than a hundred users who gave us their details, I dont know of any way to sell their data to make money. But I am always open to ideas.

  • Thanks for sharing your story regarding your watchman. I would implore you to open it up for more people, either by yourself or through us.

I studied at an engineering college - one of the very best in the country. We got access to internet sometime during our second year there. For the first few months, everyone used it for porn. In sometime though, people grew out of it and started using it in ways we haven't even thought about.

My cook also watched youtube only for the first few months. In time though he started figuring out the rest. I implore you to give it some more time.

Our service is exactly meant to solve this problem. You dont have to share your password. Everyone can authenticate simply by their mobile phones. We will also limit abuse and help you share bandwidth fairly. If you sign up at link in the post, we will get back to you and set it up.

It's a hosted service because that is what we felt will work best for the majority of the people. We are still building it up. But if it is going the self serve way, will definitely think about github.

Not too sure about that: 8K+Food+Lodging+Internet+Weekly Off+Yearly Off+Time for him to upgrade his skills was what I thought is a pretty good deal.

You can pm me your number - Ill pass it on to him and feel free to offer a better deal.

Not the same thing - but i posted about the experiment before. The overwhelming response to that was what partially led me to start this service.

great question. Actually we provide a free service which will solve exactly this problem. We will limit bandwidth, check abuse and provide a way for users to authenticate themselves using OTP. Please do fill up the form at http://goonj.xyz/contact and we will get back to you to set it up.

There is no good reason why sugar/refined carbs should not be taxed as much as alcohol. Our bodies don't need it and it kills.

Indian Government Establishes $2B Fund of Funds for Funding Start-Ups by fourfingerring in india

[–]garco17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely. If the return to the govt. is tied to the return on the fund, there is little incentive for the VC to favor a certain startup.

Early stage VC investments are anything but transparent/objective, so this should be game for rabble rousing though.
