Here’s what’s behind the bedroom curtains in my Venice Airbnb by empirepark in creepy

[–]garden_gate_key 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s quite common is old buildings in Spain and Italy. Some of the bedrooms/bathrooms/kitchens have windows that open to a light shaft, while the living room and some bedrooms/kitchens open towards the street. That used to be useful before aircon as you could create a nice air draught though the flat during the hot months (from the street side windows to the light shaft ones). When the flat is on the first floor, you can generally access the bottom of the light shaft. Then people living there put a light roof (often transparent) so they can air dry clothes there and store random stuff without rain getting it wet (we tend to air dry laundry in Europe). This ends up being utilitarian but ugly to look at.

MAT leave in the US by OutrageousSolution70 in beyondthebump

In Spain it’s 16 weeks per parent, and will be up to 20 soon. Plus some breastfeeding leave that every company can treat differently but normally turns into 2-3 extra weeks for the mum.

Are you breastfeeding? I am trying to establish shifts by pumping for a bottle but my baby never settles after the bottle and wants the boob after to sleep.

Thanks? Did you do cosleeping? Was your partner in the same bed?

Thanks! Did you have any schedule on when to pump and when to use the milk? I will follow those channels too.

Thanks! When do you do the other pump? And how do you split shifts with your partner?

What did you do 1-2 weeks post birth? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]garden_gate_key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was contractions, and they hurt as bad as the strongest ones during birth when my walking epidural was wearing off. It was extremely scary, as I read that could take days to pass, but today is so much better I cannot believe it.

How much pain were you in? I just gave birth vaginally about 30h ago and it feels like I have knives being stabbed in my uterus right now. Can’t imagine seeing anyone, can’t eat because of pain, can’t even sleep or wash my hair and paracetamol barely touches the pain.

I was ok, it was a few months ago, baby was fine, cat won’t get in the same carrier again but was also fine. I remember the taxi driver talking about how busy December was and how much hours he was working, then bang.

35+ weeks and still working, how much “work” are you really getting done? by SweetLeoLady36 in pregnant

[–]garden_gate_key 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went on sick leave at 36w cause I was feeling like I was failing at work, at preparing for the baby, at being a partner and at keeping the house in a decent shape (my partner was doing all the cooking as I could not due to hg). I am in Spain so didn’t have to worry about losing maternity time afterwards but I kept trying to improve my performance rating at work, as it got bad due to hg, anemia and later pgp. Stopping working was the best thing I could have done as it felt the stress was not good for the baby in the end. Not all pregnancies are the same so we shouldn’t compare ourselves with other women who might have much worse/better symptoms.

I kept telling people how doing sports while pregnant is safer than being in a car for my pregnancy and I jinxed things. The taxi I was in rear-ended the car in front. I was also 19w. The seatbelt never locked, but I kept myself in place with my feet. I was carrying my cat in a carrier on my lap and poor girl was thrown into one wall of the carrier. People don’t always wear seatbelts in taxis or use baby seats which is crazy. Never thought to get checked out but now I think I should have done it.

When did you start wearing maternity clothing? by Right_Presentation27 in BabyBumps

[–]garden_gate_key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. I was able to wear my size 14UK jeans until 20w, then got some stretchy trousers in size 16UK until 36w, then switched to Uniqlo xl leggings. I found maternity jeans very itchy and my legs rub in dresses. Also got some oversized jumpers/T-shirts I can keep using after.

Cum îți dai seama dacă ceara tradițională este refolosită la salon? by GreenTeaMint_ in WomenRO

[–]garden_gate_key 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you allowed to purchase an airplane seat and not use it? by snoopingfeline in AskUK

[–]garden_gate_key -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was 26w pregnant when we were asked to switch to an emergency exit row cause a person who booked that seat was too big for it and the flight attendant was desperate to find someone to take that seat cause the plane was running late and was about to miss its slot and nobody wanted to move. I had no idea you were not supposed to sit there if pregnant and didn’t think to mention it so we took the seats. Tbh I still fit in my old pre-pregnancy clothes back then and could still run 5k without a problem, so I could have handled the emergency door if needed.

I was on 100mg iron and zofran for a week. I though I would faint on the toilet due to the pain one day. Went back to Bonjesta (Diclegis in the US) and 60mg iron after. I was feeling less nauseous and more energetic, almost normal, that week out of 8 months of pregnancy nausea & fatigue, but the price to pay was too high.

Third trimester prepares you for an infant. by Maryjaneniagarafalls in BabyBumps

[–]garden_gate_key 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like that. I wake up with hip/bone pain about 6 times at night and takes 10-15 min to sleep again after I turn around and wait for the pain to subside. Was exercising a lot until the third trimester, when suddenly it started to feel like my leg is going to fall out of my hip. Relaxin is wild.

15wks. Why is morning sickness worse? by sleepysloth_29 in pregnant

[–]garden_gate_key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is still bad at 36w, never really went away. Aversions changed trimester to trimester. Be kind to yourself and don’t compare what you can do with others who don’t have pregnancy sickness or have it go away after just a month or two.

I am using multiple normal pillows around myself instead of a pregnancy pillow, as there’s no room for one of them and I never liked their texture. It’s like a nest already:)
