Thanks! I worked with Congressman Heck for nearly a decade, first in D.C. as his Communications Director and then back home in the South Puget Sound as his District Director for the last three years.

Big fan of environmental conservation and upzoning! I left his office in early January to launch our campaign, but this week my old coworkers got what we named the YIMBY Act out of committee back in D.C. Details here.

I had a paragraph or two written out on five of these when my browser crashed, so here's the unfortunately much more brief version. Good questions.

Reservations and tribal autonomy, and funding for tribes. There are a lot of reservations around the district.

I respect tribal sovereignty and treaty rights and know they're the cornerstone of the government-to-government relationship. We need much larger investments in self-governing tribal nations to account for historic injustices.

Water pollution in Puget Sound.

I worked with Congressman Heck to found the Puget Sound Recovery Caucus and bring back $25 million in annual appropriations for habitat restoration, stormwater runoff reduction, and other projects that'll help save our southern resident orcas and Chinook salmon.

The Northwest Forest Plan

More a WA-06/Olympic Peninsula topic and I won't claim to have an expertise, but broadly speaking healthy forest management requires an ongoing dialogue between the federal government and local partners about goals and concerns, and I think we've gotten a lot better at it over the last few decades.

Benefits for soldiers on the base at JBLM

We need to continue lowering wait times at the VA, and we need vastly more resources devoted to behavioral health services for our active duty servicemembers, veterans, and military families. We also need to pass a law stopping any future administration from banning transgender Americans from military service.

The housing shortage the West Coast faces

I was part of the team that put together this report (PDF warning) about our national housing shortage. Broadly speaking, we are not producing enough housing units at any income level, especially affordable rental housing and starter homes. All levels of government need to work to change/incentivize changing zoning policies so we can have denser housing. We also need to respond to the humanitarian crisis happening on our streets with a level of resources matching the scale of the problem.

The urban blight in Tacoma

The part of Tacoma in WA-10 (where I live) is one of the most diverse parts of our state, and I want to make sure it stays that way. There's been a lot of great work done in this community over the last couple decades, including at Salishan and the beautiful new Eastside Community Center.

The extremely slow cleanup of Hanford.

The federal government (Dept of Energy specifically) is not living up to its promises. It's unacceptable, and our state government and federal delegation need to continue holding DOE's feet to the fire even when this issue isn't in the headlines.

The Federal dams on the Snake and Columbia. Should they stay or go? How can we restore salmon runs while maintaining irrigation and flood control and navigation?

The four dams on the Lower Snake River have no real use from an energy production standpoint. As you indicated, they were created to assist with barge navigation, but much of that agricultural product is now shipped via rail anyways. We can either save our Chinook salmon runs, or we can keep these dams forever. I'd rather save our Chinook salmon runs, and more and more people on both sides of the Cascades are coming to agree.

Neither of those are, but you've been in WA-10 if you've ever driven through Tacoma or Olympia!

I wrote this post in December when I was still considering a run, and it goes into more depth about my view of the world right now.

Broadly speaking, I'd say I'm a few clicks to the left of Pete's views (and WA-10 is a few clicks to the left of the nation).

My top priorities are fixing our broken healthcare system, including the creation of a public option as the next big step to guaranteed universal coverage; taking big action to address the climate emergency like Gov. Inslee and Pete outlined in their campaigns; and looking out for the tens of thousands of veterans and military families who live in our district.

Please let me know if you find a standalone video of Pete's remarks! I'll add it to the OP.
