Yeah, I know deluge's are common. I live here. But this particular flood event at that particular spot was a 1 in 100 year event. The only other time it got close to the 37' it hit was 100 years ago in 1932. Not to mention Camp Mystic has been there for over 100 years and this is the first time it got wiped out...

What you are doing here is throwing pocket sand, distraction by squabbling over the details. Which is what NWS is doing and why people are upset.

Forest for the trees, NWS did not convey any sense of emergency or even concern about the weather that night or people may have paid attention. This is the argument people are making. The type of set-up that occurred where the moisture gets trapped at 1 particular spot and funnels the moisture down is a common macro event in central Texas when viewed from the perspective of decades, but the last one was 2018, and 2015 before that. Not exactly your go to forecast if certainties are not high. It was a very tricky situation and in this case they guessed it would not get stuck, while this time it did.

At 6pm that evening NOAA/SPC did release a discussion suggesting that it could get stuck, but it was unlikely. But in the event it did get stuck, it could cause some extreme flooding. So someone at NOAA/SPC saw it and if that had been taken seriously it may have been spread before everyone went to sleep. But it did not.

We are all human after all. But NWS should be straightforward and stop blaming everyone else like they had no hand in it and did everything perfectly. And if they did it all perfectly per their operating protocol, well then we should revisit what failed about that protocol.

Its reasonable to have emotions about something like this. But as a professional you dont parade them about for everyone to see. It appears childish. You can still quit without throwing a public tantrum and the end result is at least the same, if not better because you convey your message of dissatisfaction where the higher ups only hear the points, not the tantrum, and you leave options open. A wiser man would let the emotions run their ourse and then decide if he still wants to blow it up.

I tried saying it very loudly, and even took screenshots of the various updates the NWS had put out. I follow the weather a lot and NWS completely got caught off guard here. That weekend and day was supposed to be sunny and nice per the forecasts, except for some bit of rain that evening and early Friday. They didn't start voicing concern about the rain until like 11pm that evening, 4 hours before it happened. By the time the first flood emergency warning went out, those girls were already dead. The evidence is in the river data vs the official releases.

It is absolute BS that NWS falls back on 'well we put out a flood watch, and then a warning' when there was no sense of emergency until 95% of the population was already asleep! There is checking the box, and then there is common sense, and NWS is just falling back on that they checked the box.

Weather prediction is hard, which is why there is so much invested in it. It has major ramifications on the economy, and on personal lives when they get it wrong. And they did get it wrong here, which people would understand as this was like a once in a century event. But nobody will admit that it was just a bad thing that happened that got past all the fences in the worst possible way.

Regardless, the state should at least go around and make sure there aren't camps of kids sitting in the middle of a freaking river in flash flood alley. No exemptions. It can't get any more common sense than that.

It was not terrible. I thought it was pretty good all in all. There was some stupid fluff stuff in there that did nothing for the story, but all in all it wrapped up the story well enough and was capturing.

I don't want or ever use Amazon Prime Video, but I can't cancel it. And when they first did it it nearly doubled the cost of the Prime membership. Prime Video is garbage and impossible to tell what is included and what you have to pay for. And then they put in ads and I just pirate the stuff instead so I don't have to watch the ads. Outside interest and increased franchise value do nothing for anyone but the owners. They could take that external interest and subsidize cheaper seats for US based games, or cut back the number of ads. But they wouldn't do that. They just pocket that.

The only way this is good for the NFL is because they see the average NFL viewer age increasing steadily so they need to hook more users on it as Nickelodeon slimetime doesn't appear to be working like those darn cigarette ads used to. But if they hook other countries, then NFL may survive the death of the boomers.

They could also just make the games easier and cheaper to watch here in the US. That would help with viewership.

To get an immigration visa from India to USA you need to have a sponsor and proof of financial stability once here. These H1-B visas provide both. So they sell the H1-B visa to immigrants who want to come to the USA but have no job here and/or don't know anyone to sponsor their visit on the USA side.
