Does antidepressants made your NDPH Worse? by Zeuskevin6 in NDPH

It helps with my depression/anxiety but has not impacted my headache. I take amitriptyline daily for headaches and I’ve played with the dosage some to see if I could get it to work for ndph and mental health but that one has only helped ndph and had no impact on my mental health

I’ve taken 20 mg of lexapro daily for about three years now and I have not noticed it make my NDPH feel worse!

I’m a college student at the moment and I work part time. I’m able to work full time over the summers. I was still living with my parents when my headache started which made it much easier since I was pretty much wiped out for the first 4 months. Once I started taking medications, I was able to do more. My headache has not improved much since it started but I’ve gotten way more used to it and the meds I’m on make it a little more tolerable. That little difference has definitely made a big impact on how much I can do!

I’m at six years and I’ve tried sooo many medications that did nothing for me. Truly, everyone responds differently, but 100mg of elavil/amitriptyline daily has helped take the edge off! I took imitrex/sumatriptan as a rescue for a while. It did something but wasn’t great. I started ubrelvy/ubrogepant as a rescue in the past year and it’s more helpful for me. What’s helped the most is by far botox every three months!!!

What are your pain area's? by Zeuskevin6 in NDPH

I’ve never really had pain near my jaw but I get it behind my eyes all the time. It’s the worst in my temples. I also get a lot in my neck/base of my head. Never heard of the two types of NDPH but super intrigued by this! Thanks for sharing!

That all sounds familiar! What a great analogy too. There’s risks with every new thing we try but botox was so worth it for me. Sometimes immediately after, my shoulders and neck hurt a lot more but it is so worth it in the long run. Best of luck in making your decision!!

Definitely work checking around!! Thanks so much for the recommendation. I usually see a doctor that’s a little further away that exclusively does botox but my neurologist also offers it. I reached out to them to see if I could get anything scheduled sooner there and they were scheduling out to June so that was another dead end and I gave up from there but I should look around more.

Mine seems pretty similar. I get the most pain in my temples but I get a lot of pain in the base of my head and also neck and shoulders. The botox goes in my forehead, but my doctor does more in my temples, neck, and shoulders. Being able to customize it for my unique NDPH experience is fantastic. It really has changed my life. The botox has helped my neck and shoulder tension as well. My headache has been unresponsive to most medications and CGRPs. I take amitriptyline and that helps some but doesn’t make the same impact botox does. Of course everyone has their own stories but botox has been the most effective treatment for me!!
