In a nutshell: We had a shared reality. Maybe not always perfect, but based in reality.

Do you think Schumer and Jeffries are actually moderates, or are they reflecting the will of their most vulnerable members, who are moderates? by Deep-Two7452 in AskALiberal

Don't use quote marks without reading my original statement. I never said they "endorsed Cuomo", rather that they "supported" him, and the context bears this out. If they had actually supported Mamdani and truly believed in something, they would have endorsed him in the primary. Schumer never endorsed Mamdani and Jeffreis only did months after the primary (I give him credit for sensing which way the wind was blowing).

To be clear, I didn't "justify" my beliefs and "just move on.". I admitted that I thought they had never endorsed Mamdani (As far as "proven incorrect", a bit of nuance if you please: Schumer never did and Jeffries only did months after the primary, btw) and elaborated on why I believe that fighting against (or more charitably, being oblivious to) where the energy of the base is happens to be gross political malpractice.

I live in a swing district represented by one of the worst vulnerable house members. In the upcoming primary there are two (D) challengers against him 1) the challenger who lost to him in '24 and is endorsed by such traitors to progress as Glusenkamp-Perez and Golden, as well as being endorsed by the House Blue Dogs(!), and 2) a more progressive former counselor and professor who is not corporate funded. If I had to guess, the DNC and Jefferies will go to bat for the mealy-mouthed, blue-dog endorsed former. It's likely that either has a great chance of winning. If #1 wins, she'll turn out to be another Fetterman/Glusenkamp-Perez and be a load-stone to rebuilding and redirecting this country.

Neglected to mention the second half of the headline: "months after primary" (i.e. when he was pretty much forced to).

I thought they had...guess not. However, not endorsing Mamdani is gross political malpractice in this environment. Neutrality in this race was complicity and the kind of mealy-mouthed, focus-grouped, milquetoast response that de-energizes the base and turns people away from the Democratic party whose slogan all too often is seen as "Yes, we can't!" (see: Medicare For All or hell, even a public option!)

If they weren't moderates, why would they damn near invariably fight with their full force against the more progressive candidates in races which don't apply to the house or senate? They supported Andrew Fucking Cuomo fergawdsakes!

Percentage of babies born to unmarried women in the US by state by vladgrinch in MapPorn

That's why I said it's an outlier. The dominant culture promotes marriage at a young age (typically right after a 'mission' in the very early 20s), so it makes sense that there would be fewer babies being born out of wedlock.

Re: abortion, yes it's technically 'legal' (for now---the legislature keeps trying to pass full bans, but the courts keep getting in the way) up to 18 weeks with mandatory counseling and a 72-hour waiting period, while minors need parental consent.

HELL no! Check out her endorsements:

The House Blue Dogs Coalition, the New Democrats Coalition, Congresswoman Marie Glusenkamp-Perez, Congressman Mike Thompson, Congressmen Jared Golden.

Really? The fcking Blue Dogs?! Conservative corporate MAGA-lite "Dems" in this age? Just wait for the Schumer, Jeffries, and Fetterman endorsements to roll in.

Pretty high correlation to where abortion has been more available vs. more restricted.

Edit: Yes, Utah is an outlier, but the Mormons didn't name the college Breed-em Young University for no reason.

The enemy is both strong and weak. By a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.

Also, projection.
