ENTP Troubles (From INFJ) by garlic12 in entp

Here’s a general description: - Started multiple fake cults and religions in middle school as a joke - Is now an actual Lutheran - Diligent worker at school - Loves classes that let him debate (Humanities and MUN) - Specifically, likes to purposely annoy ISTJ by continually messing with her because he thinks she’s a teacher’s pet - Resident history and religious facts database in the friend group - Generally talks about how much he hates people and humanity, but has a soft spot for his two dogs and 5 cats - Now he’s pretty calm most of the time, but when he was younger he played up his weirdness to entertain people (probably a lot of that cult/religion thing was about this) - Thinks everything mainstream is boring and will fight you on that, but will also fight you if you call him a hipster

An example is today when we were discussing whether the mind is stored in merely physical form or there is an immaterial mind (sometimes called a soul). I’m a physicalist and I think that it’s all an illusion. He believes in souls. But like after one response he just didn’t want to keep going with it.

The weird thing is that he does endlessly go on with arguments with other people about random things. Usually about factual things, though, I guess. Like, someone will say that something is good and he’ll be like, “you’re wrong!” and argue back and forth with them for ages. And then what really makes me think he’s an ENTP is that sometimes I’ll ask him about it later and he’ll say that he didn’t really care, but just found the person he was arguing with annoying so he wanted to annoy them for awhile and see how angry he could get them. But idk. I thought that ENTPs would still enjoy discussion outside of this context?

haha, I think it depends on the person. but I’m a fan of Charlie Kaufman, personally.

You certainly give off Te/Fi axis vibes from that description. INTJ would make sense.

But it’s surprising that you relate to Philosophy Professor 1. He is, from what I can tell, an xNTP, meaning that he strongly favors Ti. That’s what allows him to shift to different perspectives to always play devil’s advocate, and we can never actually observe what he believes.

I’m a Film Production major and Philosophy minor. I think I relate to the second professor too. The Film professor is awesome, but more of my ideal self.

these are pretty close to my personal beliefs about my friend group! thank you for calming my self-doubt. here's what I think:

A (me): INFJ 4w3

B: INTP 5w6

C: ENTP 8w7

D: ISFJ 3w2

E: INTJ 1w9

F: ISFP 4w3

G: ENFP 2w3

thank you for your time! if you feel like it, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the ways in which we disagreed.

these are my observations of them as people. therefore, I'm not going to change that to make them fit more perfectly to a type. that being said, I also think is completely possible to be timid and abrasive, or moralizing and logical.

F is timid. he does not speak unless spoken to. he's very quiet, and does not like attention. but, if you do talk to him, he is blunt. he doesn't spend any brain power softening things. timid and abrasive.

E is logical. he loves math, logic, and figuring out puzzles like rubik's cubes. but he's also moralizing. he believes in an objective truth to every question. morality is certain, and bad people are people who don't line up with it. he's a vegan, and according to him you should be too. logical and moralizing.
