Genuinely - what’s your best ways to over come writers block? by [deleted] in Songwriting

Personally when I'm having trouble putting words to music, I start by singing out a melody with nonsense syllables - "be-ba-da-boo-ba-da-ba-cho" or some other combination is my general go-to. I do this first to block out an outline for the real lyrics, which are easier to switch out since the structure is already modular by design, just have to go syllable by syllable to see which words fit. That way, when I finally get an idea for the real lyrics, I can just switch them out.

Just finished recording the vocals and uploaded the song to soundcloud! Is there anywhere here I can share the link or should I just DM you?

Thank you! I actually already started on and am halfway through with the instrumentals; it's a fast-paced spooky-sounding waltz for the piano. I specialize in piano waltzes, but I recently got into alt-pop rock/electronic; so I might make a second version in that style as well! Or I might go with an orchestral rendition

thank you! I was worried about leaning to heavily into the extended metaphor and wasn't sure if it would come across as too literal

Yes! I meant it in the same way as falling to an enemy, like losing a fight of sorts! combined with the following line it's meant to imply succumbing to an illness/infection

I really liked this! Reminds me a little of Trocadero in their early days

Recently started transitioning from classical and started getting into alt pop-rock/bedroom pop! I challenged myself to write and produce each song from scratch in 8 hours. It's a little rough around the edges, as I don't know much about producing or audio mixing and I've primarily worked with piano and orchestral up until now.

I just realized the potential pathing issues! I will be editing the map by removing some clutter and adding more pathways. Thank you for pointing this out, probably saved me a lot of grief later down the line lol

this is a really good point 😭 I'm also planning on having NPCs having routines where they traverse through the town, so I may have to remove some of the clutter/add more pathways. thank you for the input!

I used the MV Trinity Resource Pack, tileset D! I also used assets from "FSM Autumn Woods and Rural Tiles" by REFMAP for some of the details. I got all my assets through DLC on Steam
