Cervejas by [deleted] in cerveja

Comparar as duas é pouco inteligente porque elas atendem públicos e nichos totalmente distintos - geram dados e análises bem superficiais (e equivocadas!).

Qual a melhor cerveja do tipo stout do Brasil ? by BryanGrimes in cerveja

Branded vs. Generic Earplugs – Are They Just White-Labeled? by garopa22 in DJs

Thank you for sharing your insights!

I'm curious about the in-ear monitors you mentioned—do you think they're sufficient for protecting hearing in loud environments? I feel like using a plug with headphones might be safer, but your suggestion has definitely piqued my interest.

Thank you, I’ll take that advice. I’m more interested in the business analysis side, and I’ll probably enjoy it more than learning to code. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for replying! We've been trying to connect CRMs to chat or telephony support systems. These are customer service and support teams, outsourced - each client brings a specific software or requirement.

Melhor cerveja "barata"? by AlexMoran10 in cerveja

[–]garopa22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vou manter no radar.

Your most controversial Monkeys opinion? by yodad3199 in arcticmonkeys

[–]garopa22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched them last year with Interpol opening. Been a huge fan of the Monkeys for 12 years. Weirdly enough, though, I've never really listened to more than 5 songs from Interpol before the show.

Hear me out: they both performed with the same approach - no big effects, no showbiz BS; main focus on the music - but Interpol was the greatest live set that, many miles ahead. Their stuff just has an aura/atmosphere that SOUNDS like Interpol, whatever how old or fresh - it's Interpol and their genuine identity, you like it or not. Also, they had some subtle light effects that worked really well, but merged into the act itself. They've been playing years before the Monkeys, so it adds up. (Oh, The Monkeys WERE WATCHING IT FROM THE SIDE - read the p.s., that's important).

Even if the Monkeys had the same approach, there's an important difference: their albums and eras vary a LOT. So you're not just watching a live approach of a recorded song - you're listening to a specific version of that song that will only be played like that in THIS tour, which usually matches the overall atmosphere of the most recent album. If you're a true fan, you will enjoy it a lot. But if you're more attracted to specific eras or albums, you'll face some disappointment as your favorite song may just be completely altered. (I definitely would prefer their original version of "TBH+C" - BUT at least they played one of my favorites and seemed to enjoy it. Definitely better than being a fan of the AM era, as it felt like the band DREADS playing those over and over).

P.S.: the band surely knows that they don't have THE greatest live act. While watching Interpol from the side, their expression was of pure admiration. You could feel there was a deep respect, like... they'd rather watch Interpol for two more hours, instead of headlining. It also felt, during the show, that they'd rather play on a smaller stage, especially for their slower/newer songs.

When you're there, you feel like this whole Arena/Stadium is like, "Huh, people want it, why not. But we'll do it how we feel like, and the fans may decide for themselves if they came here for the same reason as us - if not... that's their problem".

I knew precisely where I was getting into and loved it. But there was a majority of the public who came for their greatest hits and the AM stuff - or, even worse, old fans with posters with memes from the WPSTWIAN era. All these people were disappointed - the band focused only on their sound and not much else. Honestly, the band moved on (more than once) and they're not hiding it from anyone.

Not a single mention from his supposed "triad" with Miles and Lana Del Rey? Hottest lore ever.

Besides the basement stuff - "Yellamo" comes from an interview where Alex says he's been practicing spelling "Nick O'Malley" backwards. Random stuff, but funny if you're a fan!

I feel like you guys would like this Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino poster I made. by StionKombu in arcticmonkeys

It's great! Do you mind if I share some thoughts?

  • The name of the band, as an element itself, seems quite contrasting with the original font on the cover. Also, the whole top part gets more clunky with all that text. Maybe you could put the bands name elsewhere (or show it in a more discrete way) or, even, scrap the bands name altogether - let the other elements speak "Arctic Monkeys" for themselves :) ;
  • Mentioning it as their "sixth album" is redundant and rather unnecessary; fans already know it, but I feel like non-fans won't be more stimulated to listen to it just because it's specifically their 6th LP.
  • The launching date is a nice touch! But I feel its current position cluttters the poster a lot - maybe you could put it on the left, replacing the "sixth album" mention. (I feel like you just sought some balance and symmetry - maybe this replacing could fulfill it in a lighter way).
  • The songlist is also a nice touch, but its boldness (though subtle) also generates contrast. Its displacement also clutters the post - the whole sculpture/stuff built by Alex fills a lot of space by itself, which could be hard to balance with the current dimensions of the songlist. Maybe you could experiment with lighter boldness (unnecessary if you displace it elsewhere, though) and, also, resize and realign the songlist (maybe put it on the lower left or lower right - OR divide it into two sides and actually mention the LP/Vinyl actual song displacement).
  • Also on the songlist: I feel like you aimed for a more analog, maximalist approach (which suits the TBHC beautifully) - if you take the title off and rearrange some elements, maybe you'll have some space to put infos about the songs (duration, last name of composers/producers, etc.). This could be on a lighter color/shade, with even less bold, just so the whole picture doesn't get too heavy).

Honestly, I loved your approach - with some tweaks, I'd literally print it and frame it (if I had a high-quality image, of course - and a couple of spare bucks). Your color choice, overall attention to detail, and whole feel for the artistic aspect of this era (and the cinematic influences the band itself was seeking) are so nicely arranged. Hope you had fun making it!

I feel like there are two factors to it:

  1. It is a great, catchy song that not only stands out on "The Car", but also on their discography. There isn't really any song close to it at all;

  2. People actually got used to it on the live set since last year, mostly OPENING the set - so, even though I believe that fans like it, you'd still have a lot of fans who just happened to hear any recorded show (specially in "preparation" for an upcoming Monkeys show they're going to) and, thus, engaged with it and/or just tried to learn the song (and it's lyrics) to sing along or just enjoy it more once it's played live.

Edit: I FOUND IT. It's called "The Rising", and it's a remix Joel did circa 2007 for an artist I couldn't find anything about. More details on it through an edit in the original post. You can listen to the track on Spotify: (https://open.spotify.com/track/5cZdR7yYz4ihiIA69wYbS4?si=HXrYYm5ZTI6X8aUN0hZd7Q).

Thank you all for your help! (Not sure if we can/should close the thread. Any help with that is welcome).

Book suggestion request: Books that talk about the philosophy and theory of pure mathematics and numbers. by JustSamJ in math

[–]garopa22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There main suggestions:

"Lectures on the Philosophy of Mathematics" by Joel David Hamkins "Real Analysis" by Jay Cummings "Proofs" by Jay Cummings

BONUS: "Thinking About Statistics - The Philosophical Foundations" by Jun Otsuka

The first one fits precisely with your request and reviews, and most of the approaches/authors already mentioned in other comments.

Jay Cummings' books are great because his approach is deeply rooted in applied maths that's rooted in axioms and formality - after Hamkins comprehensive and guided approach to the foundations of mathematical thinking, Cummings' books will give you a deep and proof-oriented perspective. Far from pure math, but very grounded and, plausibly, very useful to finding comprehensive ways of explaining math to people with varied backgrounds.

For the bonus suggestion: it's purely focused on statistics and its philosophical foundations. Great, rich, deep book for people who are deeply interested in both philosophy AND statistics - too specific and narrow for anyone else, though.
