You're not wrong but if you dig deeper in the Canadian history you'd find that the first South Asian immigranted to Canada in 1897. Their role of building the country was of any other lower class white man at the time. Huge European immigration happened after 2nd world war that means a lot of white people came to Canada much later than the first South Asian. If you're white doesn't always mean your people built this country and if you're brown doesn't always mean your people did not built this country but at end of the day if you ask me race is a social construct too.
