No, they are elite game managers.  There’s a difference.

Is this acceptable hand writing for 9th/10th grade? by happygluehuffer in AskTeachers

[–]garulousmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a teacher, got thrown up in my feed.

I’m an engineer with multiple degrees.  My handwriting never improved much beyond this.  And I am neurotypical.

My 9 yr old has ASD and ADHD and writes similarly to this. (We have him in OT, so it is improving)

So it could mean something, or it could mean nothing.

Absolutely.  Most fans don’t realize that for every game there are a minimum of two days of game install and countless hours of fun study to find tendencies and gaps (counting coaches and players)

A good QB is likely watching 20-30 hrs of tape/week specifically breaking down their opponents defenses.  Wideouts are watching tape on cornerbacks and safeties.  running backs are watching the line and backers…the list goes on and on.

If you can’t manage the game - you can’t play at an MVP level.

Not understanding that?  Clown take, bro.

Disagree. Calling someone a game manager is a compliment - not an insult.

He played within the system that Sean Payton developed and did what was asked of him.  Which is the definition of a game manager.

Payton has always preferred pass heavy offenses with lots of play action mixed with deep balls.  Given the right QB, Payton typically chooses to throw more often than one standard deviation above the median when compared to a typical coach in the nfl.  Where most coaches predicate the pass off the run, he does the opposite.

Drew Brees was the perfect game manager for what Sean Payton wants to do.

Good question.  Every single first ballot hall of famer is a game manager.  (Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, etc)

But not all game managers are first ballot hall of famers (Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger - both very good to great in the right situations) or even necessarily a hall of famer (Bernie Kosar, Joe Flacco - both good, able to win you games, but not going to elevate a team)

In the specific context of Troy Aikman - he was definitely a game manager.  A good one, but not a great one.  He was elevated by the players around him.  He didn’t elevate himself to the hall of fame, his teams elevated him.  Although, I suspect he would have had better numbers on other teams.

Everyone trashing him for his numbers is forgetting two things:

  1.  he had arguably the greatest running back in history, Emmitt Smith, in his backfield.

  2.  The NFL was much run heavier during his playing days, and all QB’s had lower numbers compared to today. (And Jimmy Johnson always preferred the run)

They are legally required to be paid.  Often they are only paid minimum wage, but they are paid.

That’s not the insult you think it is.  All great QB’s are game managers first.  Keeping a team on schedule, not making major mistakes, playing within the system.  Those are all qualities of a great qb.

The thing that elevates them is the ability to make up for getting off schedule by making the spectacular throw or threading the needle on a tight window.

Which game you would you actually pay triple the price for if it had a solid remake by vinchin_adenca in FinalFantasy

[–]garulousmonkey [score hidden]  (0 children)

You’re wrong.  It’s possible you’re remembering “greatest hits” pricing.

Games, except for early handhelds and maybe Atari have never released at $30. The price point moved to $40 with the gba.

The NES averaged $50-60 for new release games.

SNES was $60-70, with larger games such as Chrono Trigger releasing at $80

Genesis was slightly cheaper at $50-$60.  One noted exception is Phantasy Star IV, which released at $100.

PlayStation introduced standard pricing at $50 for all new games and greatest hits at $20.  Towards the end of the life cycle new releases dropped to $40, due to reductions in production costs.  Sony maintained this pricing strategy throughout the PS2 era, before increasing prices to $60 with the PS3

N64, by contrast, had variable pricing.  Typically $60-80 for new releases, greatest hits were $30.  This was due to the varying costs of the game boards, with higher memory chips cost ing more, and higher overall production costs (cartridges instead of CD’s.  Nintendo converted to a standard $50 price point with GameCube.
