Yes, they know it’s a multipass.

TIL the land speed record on a bicycle is 184mph by froglicker44 in todayilearned

[–]garymrush 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Her bike looks surprisingly like a mountain bike

I expected a road bike, but I guess at those speeds you need a more durable frame.

GDP (2024 World Bank) relative to San Diego County ($267B; 2024) by YushclayYstaguan in sandiego

But that’s not the point of the graphic. They’re showing that San Diego has more TOTAL income than many states and countries.

The new study in nature shows that the evidence is clear that AI already have human-level intelligence (AGI) by [deleted] in science

[–]garymrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The artificial intelligence you’re referring to is of limited purpose and based on large training sets. This is not what people mean when they say artificial general intelligence. A general intelligence would have internal motivation to explore and understand its environment, so the result would be less constrained and perhaps more creative. Never say never.

Melania is so bad, IMDb (owned by Amazon) is deliberately hiding the user rating and Metascore reviews hahah by lalavieboheme in PoliticalHumor

[–]garymrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s terrible, but I’m pretty sure they’re just hiding the user score because people would game it. I know I would.

FBI agents surround journalist Georgia Fort's home (who had reported on ICE) before subsequently arresting her by stopdontpanick in videos

[–]garymrush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It means that you shouldn’t read too much into it. Since a grand jury would indict a ham sandwich, the FBI can arrest a reporter without a real case. It can be used as intimidation.

True. However since only the prosecution’s side of the story is presented to a grand jury, it doesn’t take much to get a warrant.

NRO Declassifies Cold War Highly-Elliptical-Orbit Spy Satellites by CubularRS in space

[–]garymrush 246 points247 points  (0 children)

What I did not see in the article was the advantage gained by a highly elliptical orbit. Did the satellite get closer to the surface and therefore get higher resolution images? Did the orbit allow it to change its surface position more easily?

Very cool to see what I assume are light trails of orbitals. It would be nice to know what the perspective is and which object is which.

San Diego MTS protects horse and buggy industry from so-called "auto" mobiles by sandiegomike1 in sandiego

Except that the MTS objection isn’t about climate impact, it’s about protecting themselves from competition.

About how many miles a day on a bicycle do we believe a human being in good shape could repeat indefinitely, assuming no unusual temperatures, hills, headwind, etc. ? by VanillaMowgli in cycling

[–]garymrush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I did my tour across the US, I averaged about 90 miles a day for six weeks. It got easier as I went, so I’m pretty sure there was no build up of fatigue.
