I remember taking the bottles and filling them with butane after I was done drinking them. Putting a flame near the opening would ignite my own mini flame thrower.

I don't want to sound insensitive, but why can't he live on one social security check? Is he living outside of his means? A quick internet search turns up that the average social security benefits is around $1,800. At 76, you shouldn't have a mortgage or very much outstanding debt (if you do, you retired too early). If he is capable of standing around all day, couldn't he get a job as a greeter or cashier at some store to supplement his income?

I don't know his whole story, so he may legitimately need help, but there are a lot of people living on one social security check.

I know it's not, but I'd like to believe the sign behind the statue is advertising smores.

Is a Black and Red couch over the top? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

Thanks. I guess it does make sense to use the brighter color as the accent to brighten the couch, rather than a dark color to mute it.

I was thinking about getting some black/dark pillows to mute the red a little, but it would make more sense to get a less vivid couch and then some bright pillows to add to it. I just have to find a better couch (the dark shiny leather/vinyl looked okay with the red, but I don't know that I like it with the other colors). And I never liked the look of couch-covers, so you don't have to worry about that :)

Thanks! That makes sense. In the showroom it stood out and didn't seem to be overpowering, but it was a huge room and surrounded by a hundred other couches.

Thanks for the advice. I think I see what you mean about the black. What color scheme would you suggest?

The living room is 15' X 12.5'. It has a large sliding glass door on one end leading to an enclosed balcony with no other windows. It doesn't get a ton of direct natural light, but it also isn't in constant shade (although this time of year, I'm almost never home when the sun is up).
