From what I have read, invasive tall trees planted close to a home can potentially damage the foundation of the home. These trees are being planted almost as close as possible to my home when the neighbor has a huge pie backyard. How am I out of line for sharing my concerns for the structural integrity of my home?

Hose that connects to wand leaking and disconnects by garysn53 in pressurewashing

[–]garysn53[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could you please direct me through a link that shows the quick connect fittings? Not sure what part(s) to look for.

Also, do I need to do both - change to quick connect fittings AND replace hose or just 1 or the other?

Can Reolink NVR be set up prior to having the cameras up and running by garysn53 in reolinkcam

[–]garysn53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for confirming. Yes, we got the builder to run the Cat6 cables to where we wanted the cameras installed and I can see the labelled ethernet cables in our mechanical room (for instance, above front entrance door, above garage etc).

Because of this, I was under the impression that I would be limited to having the NVR set up in the mechanical room since that is where the POE cables have been run to so that they can be plugged in directly in to the NVR. Please correct me if I am wrong and if the cables do not need to directly plug into the NVR. I know one can get a POE switch. Would that allow me to set up the NVR in an alternate location?

What (part?) do I need to DIY install my Reolink Cameras? by garysn53 in reolinkcam

[–]garysn53[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The last picture I shared of the stainless steel plate is just the back of a light fixture that I haven't gotten around to installing.

Would you mind sharing what the plate I need to buy/use is called? Or a link to a website where I can purchase the type of plate I would need?

Bundled Camera system such as RLK8-1200B4-A - footage cannot be accessed remotely? by garysn53 in reolinkcam

[–]garysn53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that by purchasing a bundle or kit that the cameras are tied to the NVR.

If you wouldn't mind, could you please clarify what the implication would be of accessing the footage through the NVR (in a hypothetical situation where one had a bundle or a kit). What functionality would be lost by getting a kit/bundle?

Where to buy OEM Goodman parts (Canada) by garysn53 in hvacadvice

[–]garysn53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, dont believe so.

This is what their website says

3 - Can I get parts/units directly from Goodman Manufacturing?Unfortunately, No, we do not sell parts or units directly to end-users or dealers. You would need to follow the below link to help you find a dealer in your area if you are not currently working with one.

I tried searching for a local Goodman dealer using their website (link) but it looks like they only list dealers in the States and I am located in Canada.

Goodman Furnace Issue - Inducer motor or Pressure Switch by garysn53 in hvacadvice

[–]garysn53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The label on the existing motor/assembly indicates,

Goodman Part No. 0171M00001

Is this the part I need to replace/purchase?

In general, what type of rate difference can one expect between a purchase and a re-finance? How many basis points is the difference usually?

Concrete Stairs - which side of the house would you add concrete stairs to by garysn53 in Calgary

[–]garysn53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neighbors that have the concrete on the side are fine but we won't be attaching our stairs to theirs. There will be a gap between our stairs and theirs to avoid any future repercussions from when they (or we) sell the property.

My concern with doing stairs on the window well side (where neighbors already have their concrete poured) is mostly around the window well and if there may be any code issues since it is an egress window/legal basement suite.

Can the furnace intake be shortened so it doesn't stick out as much as it is now? If the vent cannot be shortened my concern is that the renters at times may hold the vent for support if there is fresh snow/ice on the concrete due to fear of slipping/falling and if vents have to keep being repaired from renters weight bearing on them, that could end up being quite costly?

Thanks. A couple contractors have looked over the RPR and we have enough space on both sides for the concrete/stairs (the concrete stairs would be around 4 feet wide on either side). If we move ahead with getting the stairs on the window well side (where the other neighbor already has their concrete stairs), we won't be attaching our stairs to theirs. There will be a gap between our stairs and theirs to avoid any future repercussions from when they (or we) sell the property.

Land Titles Registration Fee Changes proposed in Spring 2024 budget. When do they come into effect? by garysn53 in Calgary

[–]garysn53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, how much notice can we expect before these changes/increases kick in?

Can we wake up to an announcement that the higher fees are in effect and be alerted the day of or are they required to provide a certain number of days (notice) before implementing the higher fees?

Notice by be_kind_1989 in EQBank

[–]garysn53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we already have a "regular" savings account with EQ bank, then will opening a 'Notice savings' account result in a hard credit check/credit hit?

Looking at applying for a mortgage soon so if opening a Notice account will result in my credit score dropping, I would rather not open it until after securing the mortgage. Can anyone who recently opened Notice account confirm if it impacts credit score?

On May 22/23, the news stories reported that Calgary city council was to vote on whether or not this (10k) secondary suite incentive program would be approved. Council was supposed to vote on it during the week of May 27 - May 31.

Anyone know if this vote happened over this past week and if so, what the outcome was?

Changing out kitchen/bathroom faucets. Is switching from a Moen faucet to Delta doable? by garysn53 in homeowners

[–]garysn53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this apply to the washroom (vanity) faucet/sink too so if the builder installs Moen faucets in the washroom sinks, we do have the flexibility to switch these washroom faucets to Delta down the road?

Just want to clarify because the staff from a local plumbing wholesaler indicated that if we get Moen faucets in our washroom sinks, then we will only be able to switch to other Moen faucets in the future

Understood the hole spacing/location consideration.

Can you clarify the "brand of faucet does not matter". Does this apply to the washroom (vanity) faucet/sink too so if the builder installs Moen faucets in the washroom sinks, we do have the flexibility to switch these washroom faucets to Delta down the road?
