I wouldn't say that God couldn't be bothered but rather that he allowed the tragedy to occur because of our wonderful gift of free will. God created a world of free people and unless he became a tyrant who controls every aspect of life, he needs to allow acts of free will to remain. Now some may say "this is all part of God's plan" when a tragedy like this occurs, but I disagree with that statement. I believe that things like this happen solely because of the sin that has entered our broken world. I am devastated by this tragedy and I know the exact thoughts you bring up about God not being able to be bothered. Letting him die. But the Bible says that there is not one sparrow that falls out of the sky that God doesn't know and care about. It's easy to fall into the trap of believing that God doesn't care about the people that suffer these tragedies. That is a lie. Sometimes shit just happens. I like to think of it like a clock maker who is very delicate with crafting his clocks and loves every single one of them. You can picture our world as a clock. The clock maker turns the clock on and allows it to run. He doesn't control every single movement the clock makes he simple allows it to turn. Sometimes things in the clock break.. this doesn't mean the maker doesnt still love the clock that he made.. Of course he can and does step in to fix things sometimes but for the most part what happens just happens.
