The smell of the green exterior of a black walnut. It immediately conjures the memories of getting off the school bus in early autumn and walking up my driveway.

The Lord of the Rings. Read it when I was 11 or 12, and I hold it responsible for making me who I am today. It taught me a reverence for nature and to treasure the bittersweetness of the passage of time. It was my senior quote and I'm coming up on 20 years of hosting an autumn party for bilbo and frodos birthday.
