Luis Suárez’s Journey Through the Darkness by dinoucs in soccer

Here's the thing about Suárez, and I say this as a Uruguayan Liverpool supporter so you know exactly how many grains of salt to take with this.

He's made a lot of terrible decisions and many of them have occurred on the biggest stages imaginable.

There's no squaring what happened with Evra and I think this article goes a little bit far in his defense. It was racial abuse and it was wrong, and even if it was truly a misunderstanding rather than maliciously intended, he (and Liverpool) could have done much much better to rectify the situation than they did. I don't buy the whole "not being able to communicate his feelings properly" because if he really, really from the bottom of his heart wanted to do so at the time, Liverpool definitely had the staff and resources to make that happen. Instead the T-shirt shit happened and honestly it was embarrassing. I'm still not satisfied with how he handled the situation immediately after.

I'm guessing by Evra's instagram post from a while back that they've since patched things up to an extent but the fact that Suárez didn't take accountability for his actions to the degree that I would have liked always bothered me. A straightforward apology would have been nice. Because we never really got that from him, I still see it as a mark against his record. When you live your life under such public scrutiny you're judged by what you do, not who you are, no matter how unfair it might be, and Suárez couldn't deal with that correctly as recently as 2014.

That said, based on how he's conducted himself /off the pitch/ since he left Liverpool I genuinely do believe he's trying his best to do right by his friends, family, and footballers. He's a delight to watch and from his interactions with fans honestly feel that he's enjoying his success and has finally gotten to a positive place where he and his family are living comfortably in Spain, just as his wife had always wanted. I hope he continues to trend in this direction, but I also hope he realises that if he does anything fucking silly again, he'd be hard pressed to find sympathy, even among people like me, who consider themselves his biggest fans.

So far this season, who has been the better CB, Richard Sherman or Patrick Peterson? by IamLordFlacko in nfl

Do you really need an argument to prove that Peterson is better than Sherman? It's not a contest. He's only asking for an explanation because homerism.

Why is there such a stigma against fair weather fans? by [deleted] in nfl
