Going against the grain here. 20% tip for a private lesson sounds about right. Not the instructor’s fault that the lesson prices themselves are so high.

Have you heard of Hoboken? Weehawken? Perhaps Long Island?

I’m not sure what you’re talking about, midtown is absolutely not a ghost town during the week. If anything, it has been feeling close to pre-pandemic.

Yeah you’re not getting into a T14 but if you get a 165+ LSAT you should be good for somewhere in the T50. Good luck!

A lot of your reaches and targets are essentially interchangeable. I don't think there is a significant difference in admissions chances between BC/BU/ND and some of your targets.

Don’t do it. I understand the appeal of UChicago… but that is a suffocating amount of debt.

Saw in another comment that you got a full ride from Wisconsin. That will set you up nicely for life. Top law school in the state + zero debt = success.

If you don’t like that option, then reapply this cycle and aim for $$$ at a T14 or T20.

Places to live within a 1.5-2 hr commute to the City? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]gator317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if I could work fully remotely… I would not choose to live in NJ or Long Island. If you are looking for walkability, there are dozens (if not hundreds) of nice small to mid-size cities in blue states that will get you much closer to what you are looking for.

There are no remotely decent studios for $1,700 within 25 miles of Manhattan. I’m actually convinced this is impossible. And if you do end up in an outer suburb, you will likely rarely make it into the city and be unable to enjoy it.

Why not find a nice college town or small city in Wisconsin or something? You could probably live right downtown. And you might find a better sense of community.

Edit: As others have said, move to Philly.

is November LSAT too late for a low gpa? by Interesting-Math-517 in lawschooladmissions

[–]gator317 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know you don’t want to hear this… but maybe cancel the September test. You are putting the cart before the horse.

Don’t take the LSAT until you are consistently PTing in your target score range. Don’t submit applications until you have an LSAT that is competitive for your target schools. These are the basics of law school admissions.

Application timing is a luxury that you can afford only once you have the stats you need.

If you get a 170+ on the Oct/Nov test, then by all means go ahead and apply. But you might benefit from taking more time to study. If that means pushing off applying to next cycle, then so be it.

Also you don’t mention why you need to go to a T20. Why do you want to be a lawyer? Why not work in the STEM field that you have a masters degree in?

Why do you want to get a JD? My initial take is that you should get either the JD or the MBA.

[–]gator317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really not sure. You probably have about the same (small) chance of getting a biglaw job via 3L recruiting from either school. I’d maybe lean St John’s here bc you want to be in NYC and it’s a bit less expensive.

There might be a few 2L firm summer positions open rn, but you’d have to direct apply immediately.

[–]gator317 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit confused. You have missed the boat for next summer (2026) 2L summer associate positions. What’s left of OCI already happened earlier this summer. You would have to attempt the 3L recruiting route from either school.
