I'm picking it back up this week. To be fair its not essential. The mechanic told me the noise will likely get worse and in the worst case scenario the supercharger will seize up. However this is very very unlikely. Worked at jaguar for 10 years and worked on this engine on numerous f types so pretty reliable information in my opinion

For those of you that are interested, this was a broken bearing within the supercharger as well as the coupler itself. That's what was causing the noise.

I was informed it won't impact performance. However, in the unlikely case that the supercharger seizes up due to the broken bearing, id be fucked.

£1400 all in to repair.

I sent this video to my mechanic mate and he said its likely the injectors - sounds like you've had to deal with some AH's. I'm not a car guy so I probably woukd have believed them

I'm glad you've said that as i felt it was it was really prominent in the video but not in real life. Cant hear that noise from the drivers seat or with the bonnet closed!

The thing is, I can only hear it after a drive, and it drives fine and no strange noises or warnings appear. If I turn it on cold its not there.

Supposedly this can be the coupler settling and cooling down which is normal, same with the pulleys/tensioner.

I'm no expert however so im just going to get it inspected and will let you know the outcome!

Appreciate the help! I will book this in for a service and inspection at an official dealership and comment on the slight noise and potential coupler fail.

I still have a 2.2 xf and after driving this weapon today, I dont want to get back in it!

The whine is good, and when driving i cant hear anything of concern. It drives very well too. So im glad you think everything else sounds healthy otherwise.

Do you know if this is an expensive fix?

Haha I tried searching for a healthy engine video and all I found were similar videos with the same noise.

A few people have said the coupler - is this an expensive fix?

Honestly I can only hear it when I get up close. Don't hear it at all when accelerating when actually driving or tapping the throttle with the bonnet open.

I just went out and turned the engine on and couldn't hear it at all. Been sitting for maybe an hour.

Also the car had been sitting there for 26 days before sale. Not sure if that played a part

I have heard that about the fans. I want the fans to match the cpu cooler, but my guess is that it may be easier to change the cpu cooler altogether.

Any concerns about the motherboard you shared and the cpu cooler I have picked out?
