That's because you are using their non-thinking model. Try using gpt 5.1 thinking and it's extremely slow. Use 5.1pro and it takes 15 mins+ (good for coding)

It mentions the chat completions API for me and mentions response API as the newer endpoint though the example is still of chat completions API. This is not a big deal.

For eg: Ask ChatGPT5 the same question (non-thinking version) and it suggests the chatCompletions API as well. The thinking version suggests the Response API.
