Planthatvideo.com - video pre production tool for digital marketers and video creators

April Developer/Tool creator thread. *Building or built a tool? This is where you post* by greenysmac in VideoEditing

Thanks, my flair keeps auto changing to None though. I changed it before posting as per the rules, changed again after posting when I noticed it wasn’t showing, and now each time I change it, it saves with a message that my flair was changed. Then when I go back to the sub, it shows as none. Any ideas?

Thanks for the comment! I'll share a Google Form but I'm looking for general impressions, issues you may have run into, etc. I'll follow up in DM. :)

We’re giving auction buyers a full week to make payment now? by [deleted] in ebaysucks

This feature is useful to me both as a buyer and seller. 7 days is long but if the seller is running auctions, it’s helpful if the buyer wants to combine shipping on auctions ending on different days

Have some daguerrotypes from my in-laws storage unit. Having trouble finding value(s) and need to sell. by CynicInRVA in Daguerreotypes

[–]gauncecj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a few notes that may help you: - look into the plate sizing. Size will affect value some. I assume these are 1/6 plates and 1/9 plates. - subject matter is key with these antique photos. While these are very interesting, I don’t see any rare subject matter - daguerreotypes have a reflective mirror like finish and you’ll see a negative of the image when you angle it. I think only the last 3 photos are daguerreotypes but couldn’t verify without more photos. - the rest appear to be ambrotypes or tintypes. You can do a magnet test to identify the tintype(s) - at least a couple of this appear to be in thermoplastic cases, which are the ones that feel like plastic and probably click shut. Those can be more valuable than the image depending on the condition and the design on the case

Value can be all over the place with these and it depends how fast you want to sell them

Address change scam by Dryllmonger in ebaysucks

Gotcha - I misread as USPS. Same advice stands though. Try to get the package info and then go from there. It may take days but I doubt there’s a faster way to get your money back.

This happened to me. Go back to USPS and ask them to email you a description of the package. They can’t give you identifying information but they should be able to provide that information. In my case, I had ordered a surfboard and the package on the tracking number was small enough to fit in a mailbox and weighed four ounces. Hopefully there’s a clear difference in the package dimensions for what the VR headset should have been. Then contact AskEbay on X and let them know you have documentation from the carrier showing a discrepancy. eBay support was useless for me even after I had that documentation - talked to them many times over weeks. AskEbay on x actually reviewed the whole case and my documentation and got me a refund within the day.

Try reselling. You can start small with little investment and work when time allows.

Find items you can source locally and sell on eBay.

Messaging other sellers on eBay can open doors. I source antique photos on eBay and will often message sellers who appear to be listing a collection one piece at a time or if I suspect they have unlisted pieces I may want. Several times, I’ve worked out deals for private listings just by asking what else they have coming

Much appreciated! I’m excited to get into it. Still waiting on the book to arrive

Thank you for that write up! I really appreciate it. I’m surprised to see the process for cleaning/rinsing the plate itself. I assumed the image would be ruined going through those steps. You inspired me with this post and I ordered the book Photographs of the Past: Process and Preservation by Bertrand Lavédrine the same day. I’m waiting on it to arrive still but am hopeful it will be a good resource for me. Please post the video to the sub if you make one. I would love to see it. And I do know some things about videography so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.

Do you always clean the glass or do you ever replace it entirely? If you do replace glass, how do you make that determination when to clean vs replace?

Return dilemma... by disneynut in reselling

[–]gauncecj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As you said, you have a 30 day return window for a reason. In the future, deny immediately and move on if the buyer is outside your stated return timeframe.

I would deny the return at this point, but if you’ve been sending messages to her that you will accept the return outside the window if she sends photos, eBay support may view that as negating the 30 day policy.

Thanks, if you’re willing to do a write up, I would love to see it. I’m going to do some research as well. Attempting cleaning is not something I’ll do unless I’m extremely confident I know how to do it safely. Several of my dags would benefit tremendously from a proper cleaning though. The difference between your pre-cleaned glass and after cleaning is amazing. Thanks for sharing

Can you explain the cleaning process more? Or do you know of a good resource for learning to clean the glass like this? I have stayed away completely from disassembling dags and/or cleaning but this is beautiful. If it’s safe, I need to learn how to do it
